With the boardroom drama of last weekend over shadowing pretty much all else, the final pre-season friendly seemed almost a sideshow compared with the main even in West Ham’s circus-like shareholder drama which has now consumed the club at it’s most vulnerable time.
However all else pales into insignificance compared with performance on the pitch. It is only by forging a successful Championship campaign that Nuno can take the Irons back to the top tier and restore shareholder investments to their pre- relegation values and at the same time satisfy the deep upset gnawing at fans facing up to life in the second division for the first time since 2011.
So the fact that West Ham sent out a slow, one dimensional side in their final 1 – 1 draw against Magdeburg really needs recognising and fixing – fast. Selling Crysencio Summerville without bringing in a decent low-budget replacement has left the Hammers unbalanced and toothless going forward.

So when claims emerge again this week that Tottenham’s 27 year old inverted left winger is now their top choice – after reading about him for the first time earlier in July – West Ham fans will be all ears (if they’re not, like me, totally bored by yet another ‘rumoured’ transfer link by now). In the new era of co-operation between the two clubs, a deal seems straightforward enough if there is genuine intent on West Ham’s side: More case of convincing the player to drop down a division in exchange for week in, week out game time and a decent promotion bonus.
Time for talking is over, West Ham. Time for action this week. As the tepid, toothless Rangers and Magdeburg performances showed. Get it done.
