The Coufal effect – Moyes

Vladimir Coufal cannot start believing his place in the team is a given despite the manager talking him up as a fine addition to the squad.

The Hammers have found the Czech market really valuable over the last few months with Tomas Soucek proving a massive player for the team.

And with some assistance from the midfielder in giving his former Slavia Prague when the club were considering buying him he has been hugely impressive over his first games for the club.

And manager David Moyes has made it clear he has been very impressed with his performances over those early games particularly bearing in mind the strength of the opposition we were facing.

However, he is clearly keen to make sure there’s no relaxing and believes that in Ryan Fredericks he has a guy who will keep the  new boy on his toes over the winter.

Talking to reporters he said:“I’ve been really impressed. Ryan’s going to keep him on his toes because we value Ryan. We like him a lot.

He picked up an injury, we lost Jeremy Ngakia and only had young Ben Johnson so it left us really short. But I’ve got to say I’ve been very impressed (with Coufal). I think he’s done a really good job. He’s been consistent.

And he’s probably come into arguably one of the toughest periods we’ve had. I think his first game was Leicester away and then we’ve played many of the top teams like Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham.

So he’s had his hands full with the opponents he’s been up against.
