David Moyes

The end for David Moyes?

West Ham United’s loss to Liverpool surely spells the end for manager David Moyes’ time at the London Stadium.

The match against Jurgen Klopp’s team was really the final opportunity for the Hammers boss to secure what would have been a sensational fourth consecutive season of European football. However, with the disappearance of continental competition next season, also comes the likelihood of David Moyes not being offered a new contract at West Ham.

Clearly, other results, such as those involving Newcastle and Manchester United, didn’t go West Ham’s way, but even if other fixtures had produced favourable outcomes, the draw at the London Stadium was never going to be enough for David Moyes.

That makes it all the more strange why the West Ham manager didn’t make more proactive substitutions during the game, particularly when 2-1 down. The Irons boss must have known that his job opportunities were vanishing along with the chance of three points, yet he seemed unable to make the attacking substitutions that may have allowed him to keep his job in East London.

Whilst there was only really a slim chance of David Moyes remaining in employment at West Ham next season, it was always going to be unlikely. However, with his contract expiring this summer, the squad needing a complete overhaul, and the prospect of no European football, it seems like the correct time to allow someone else with their own vision to take over.

We didn’t lose against Liverpool. We drew! Okay, it may have felt like we had lost the game. 🙂

    • P. B says:

What do you mean West Hams loss to Liverpool?? I get that you want Moyes out, but I thought we drew 2 – 2!

  • Ess_Bee says:

Agree with your last sentence. COYI. ⚒️⚒️⚒️

  • David Newman says:

The club should announce Moyes is leaving now

  • Steven Hamblett says:

We didn’t lose we drew 2.2.
Also the time of this article says 10.15 28/4/24?????
Do you have a time machine as at the time of writing this comment, it is only 0940hrs on 28/4/24!!

  • Sam says:

We got a draw you plonker. ****e website.

    • Patrick Gavin says:

      Yes we drew!
Your obsessed with getting Moyes out!
I wonder how you will feel this time next year when we are in a relegation fight!

      • Trevor says:

If we’re in a relegation fight, it will be because of the aged paper thin squad Moyes leaves behind.

        • Paul says:

He funds the player budget now as well delusional. Sully controls it all !!

He will continue to and at least Moyes gave us back pride and hope. I reckon we get an out of work manager, young one or a pelegrini and luck will be only way the manager gets through. We might see a bit better football but I’m sure we won’t be in top 8 very often

  • Trevor says:

    Did Liverpool beat us?

  • George Mitchell says:

i find this astonishing, moyes has done a fantastic job at west ham, bearing in mind that they arent exactly a big club.i have no preference of any english clubs but surely a european trophy for a club of their stature is over achieving

    • Trevsheadwonthecup says:

Seen the average attendance and where they sit in footballs rich list . If they ain’t a big club what does that say about the other 99% per cent below them . Absolute nonsense.

  • Pete says:

    We didn’t lose

  • Andy says:

Since when was a result of 2-2 a loss?
I understand not getting a win is damaging to the prospect of European qualification but come on. Get the simple facts straight.

  • IronMan says:

It was not surprising that David Moyes didn’t make more proactive substitutions… when does he ever? Only one manger attempted to win the game, that is quite clear from Moyes post match comments about it being a good result. By what definition was it a good result when we needed to win? It was another in a long series of missed opportunities. More good results like that and we will finish in the bottom half of the league, a shocking underperformance considering the resources at Moyes disposal. Can’t wait to see the back of him.

  • Spinzy says:

At least he is consistent, yet another dragged out 70 minute substitute

  • John B says:

There isn’t a single manager on this planet who could turn WHU into what they are not and maybe never will be.Not suggesting we stay with Moyes but don’t expect the arrival of a miracle worker and miracles.Even Liverpool have had to be realistic in that regard.Thought that was one of the best defeats I’ve seen yesterday.

  • J morgan says:

A decent result. Moyes didn’t make changes again because there is no quality on the bench. And that reflects a lack of depth across our aging squad. Whilst Moyes has brought us success, you just cannot play his limited possession style unless you’ve a younger squad with legs. Time we played to our strengths which isn’t our defence as the goals conceded column shows.

  • MICHAEL STONE says:

David Moyes use of subs is beyond belief. Any West ham stats person know if Divine Munbama holds the record for most unused forward sub in the premier league? It’s so obvious that Moyes is trying to punish him for not signing a contract. And please can anybody please tell me the last youth/under 21 player to make a full 90 minute premier league game or at least start the game? Youth is the way forward and as over 30 goals scored in the premier league it’s never going to happen under Moyes.

  • dennis says:

I thought it was a draw.

    • Diana says:

You don’t need enemies when you’ve got fan’s like westham, the manager need supporting not being criticised,
He may give instructions but thing’s happen on the field and the players make there decisions where they kick the ball.l wonder how many fans are even qualified to voice an opinion.

  • JOHN RIPPENGALE says:

    Thought we drew?

  • Steve says:

I thought we drew against Liverpool?

  • Mark says:

Wow I didn’t realise they had changed the law and a 2-2 scoreless e is now a loss 😂😂😂😂😃

  • Chris says:

Hugh has been gone five minutes and this website is falling apart, how clumsy was this headline.

  • Jimmy says:

    Didnt we draw

  • Ian. says:

speaking of draws , there is one statistic that does not seem to have been noted .
WEST HAM are 2nd in the league for the highest number. of. draws so far this season, if that is not an indictment of. MOYES over cautious style l don’t know what is?

  • Telboy says:

‘West Ham United’s loss to Liverpool’? Er, we drew…

  • Bonzo says:

Poor old Moyes. He has gone from being considered successful if he managed to keep us up and avoid relegation to being considered unsuccessful if he fails to win us a fourth season of European football. A victim of his own success?
