Moyes wants out of West Ham if Tim is boss
Numerous outlets are today reporting the real reason David Moyes is reluctant to sign a new contract.
Last week, the Hammers manager informed news reporters that he was taking his time to decide whether to sign a new contract at the club. Moyes indicated there was a new West Ham deal on the table but suggested that he had decided to wait until the end of the season before deciding on his future.
It has now been rumoured that the reason for his hesitancy is a stipulation in the small print. The suggestion is that any new deal would be signed as a head coach rather than manager. This would give full power of transfers to director of football Tim Steidten, with Moyes solely responsible for first-team selection and tactics.
Moyes is thought to be unhappy with the terms of the new deal, which would see his power and influence diminished. Claret & Hugh will, of course, speak to our sources at the club in an effort to seek confirmation of this latest development.
If that is indeed the case, absolutely excellent. If Moyes doesn’t like it… more excellent still. Perhaps the owners have (slightly) more sense than I give them credit for after all.
There are already banners and placards at matches. The board wouldn’t want an all-out fan rebellion. Form has to improve or this could happen. Moyes did enough last season for us to end up 14th. Will that be enough this season ??? I doubt it.
I don’t know if that’s any good either giving Moyes the role of team selection and tactics. Isn’t that where we suffer most.
