James Tomkins was unveiled as captain for tomorrow’s Europa league opener and revealed his excitement at today’s press conference with stand in manager Terry Westley.
“I’m very excited to play in Europe. It’s my first time, and to be captain is obviously a huge honour.” said Tomkins
“Not many teams can sell out a Europa League fixture, but we have and that’s excellent. It shows the passion our fans have for Europe.”
“I’ve met Slaven. He’s obviously a very popular figure here at West Ham and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
“Normally I’d be on holiday, but I’d much rather be playing. To be back from injury is fantastic and I can’t wait to get going again.”
“As this is the last season at Upton Park we want to make it as special as possible, the Europa League is a great way of doing that.”
His problem is constancy,he could be great but does not keep focused for 90 mins,
He has the heading ability he tackles well but does not quite read it yet,
This is make or break year and I still think Pardew will test our resolve to keep him
Hmm,i think if we get another good defender in then Tonks will be a casualty of that in The Prem.I dont mind that at all though if someone with more quality takes his place.Thats life,we cant play someone just because they are local or ‘one of our own’ as that stupid song goes, lol 😀
I agree.
If we are genuinely hoping to be a top 6/8 side then all our players should be at that level.
Are Tomkins and Noble in that class? I’m not totally convinced, this is definitely the season they need to step up.
We’ve got a lot of games this season, we’ll need a big squad of big players and Tomks is big enough to get a lot of games in.
Go on lad, show Slav what you got to offer. I can see a bigish name being signed before start of season. I’m thinking that Tonks might be the fall guy.
Be a proud moment for him for sure
