Uncertain future facing Irons defender

|

Aaron Cresswell may be facing an uncertain Hammers future should the club remain in the Premier League next season.

The former Hammer of the Year has been out of sorts with himself this season and with Arthur Masuaku being employed as an attacking left sided force has been used mainly as a central defender.

However, when he has been released from his defensive duties – which were totally shredded by Raheem Sterling against Manchester City – he has not been able to reproduce his potency or crossing ability down the left, one of the vitues which encouraged the club to bring him in.

It hasn’t stopped him becoming top assists man but the club feel that defensively and over the season his game has slipped.

Despite hammering home a fine free kick last Sunday that may not be enough to save him from a departure if the club received the right sort of offer.

He has been linked with Manchester City and Chelsea in the past but is certainly not in the kind of form to see that sort of scenario develop.

The club are looking very hard at the various shortcomings across the squad and Cresswell – having at one time been in the England frame – has certainly suffered the sort of form dip which would see bids entertained.

I hardly think this story carries any water, as Cresswells assist rate is far higher than Masuakus, and also he knows on which side of a goal post to stand at a corner.
Apart from two very decent crosses from deep positions, Masuaku has done very little since returning from his ban.

Yep, clearly no homework done before posting this. Cresswell actually has more assists this season than any other defender in the Premier League with 7. The same amount as Firminho, Mane, Willian and only 1/2 less than the likes of Ozil and Salah.

I agree he hasn’t hit previous levels, but I don’t think he’s been given credit where it’s been due this season. Unfortunately every single defender has been poor for 2 years now, and it’s really starting to show how important Fat Sam’s influence was defensively.

With our chairmen impossible to guess what will happen only that it will probably involve some negative headlines.

exactly, so I want us to have a strong manager who has the experience and the record of being able to boss the club. It does seem at least that they have warmed to Moyes more than the supporters have, and would be more willing to take a back seat .

I think a question that needs to be asked is why players like Creswell and Kouyate who did well under BFS and in Slav’s first season are underperforming this season

Unfortunately I don’t have the answers
