Video: Moyes post match presser

|

David Moyes gave his post-match press conference to reporters following yesterday’s defeat at the London Stadium and this is what he said:

The game swung on the equaliser, did it go out of play?

I probably had the best view in the house as it went over my head and I was standing about two yards back from the touchline.

I was disappointed the linesman didn’t pick it up.

He seemed to look away and not at the ball?

Yeah he was looking for an offside but his first job is to see if the ball had gone out of play and he didn’t make a decision on that at all. He made no decision.

The other thing with the offside, what we do have is VAR to clear that up and sort it out if he got it right or wrong. I would have said his first job was to see if the ball went out of play or not and he didn’t do that.

Should VAR have a camera on the touchline?

I can only tell you what I saw from where I was and the ball was out, it went over my head. I turned away to applaud my player for closing the keeper down and the player’s reaction shows you exactly that it was out.

Was that where the game was lost?

I certainly feel as if it had a big part to play in the game, yeah.

What did you make of the reaction from the fans today?

I thought they were really good and for long periods they saw a really good performance. Disappointed I wasn’t able to give them the result to go with it but their support was great, I was really pleased.

What is the message to Haller after his miss in the first half? Can you fix that?

I think the big thing, I think it was offside. Because the linesman didn’t flag you put it down as a chance and in ym book it was an offside decision so it never because a chance.

I haven’t looked back at it but the word I got was that it was offside anyway.

More generally, missed chances today?

I thought the biggest thing tonight was that we had a great chance to go two or three up, maybe even more. We played really well but we didn’t kill it off when we had the chance to do so, show a clinical edge to our finishing or our final pass which was needed.

I think that was what cost us tonight.

How do you lift the players after clearly playing so well for an hour but lost?

I think that we didn’t play particularly well on Monday night and we won so tonight I thought we did deserve something out of the game, for the first 60 or 70 minutes but we allowed the disappointment to last too long with the goal which we all believe was out.

It dwindled on to the second goal and even at 2-1 we were still well in the game. The biggest disappointment was to lose the third goal as we were never out of the game.

How do you address mental resilience? You have been resilient prior to tonight?H

It is something I will address but it just looked like we couldn’t get over the disappointment of not getting the ball out of play.

What came from that was an excellent goal that really rocked us and Man Utd got confidence from it but we never really regrouped. We never really got ourselves correct and got it right but we need to be better.

I won’t fix it right away but we are trying our best and there have been lots of games this season that we were aboto right the wrong, tonight we just weren’t able to.

Is what you reported Moyes saying in Scottish?

What? That really is gobbledygook isn’t it?

Agree, I too think Fornals should be sacrificed to give Benrahma a chance. We are a solid team at the moment and, after ladt season’s travails, I’ll be satisfied with a mid-tanle finish.. But we won’t push on unless we get creativity onto the top end of the pitch. Rashford and Fernandes showed what a difference vlass makes. Oh, and Man U and us decided to spend 45 mill on a player. They bought Fernandes and we got Haller. Which proves its not how much you spend, but who you spend it on.
