Video: Supporters threatened by stewards

Two West Ham supporters were allegedly threatened with civil arrest on Saturday at the London Stadium after an altercation with stewards when they tried to leave after being accused of swearing.

One supporter asks the steward on camera “On what grounds are you throwing us out?” The steward claims the supporter can not supply a valid ticket but his fellow supporter claims he has already shown his to the stewards. The steward smirks and laughs during the short video. The other West Ham supporter says he just wants to go home.

Asked why they have been stopped  from leaving another steward says: “I can civil arrest you if I want to”

Supporter Jack Levin explained later on twitter “At half time he approached me and mate as we were going for a beer and wanted a word – it snowballed when they started accusing (us). I told my mate if he did swear to apologise – he never swore but tried to diffuse. (My) mate refused to produce his ticket as he did nothing wrong – and stewards wanted to start searching my wallet as they say I had other tickets ! I had a ticket in the East (stand but) was with my mate in the Bobby Moore Lower. Heinous crime -I know. Bang to rights Yes ! Ejected harsh but refused me leaving – serious!”

“I admitted (I had a ticket for the East Stand) before I was asked to produce my ticket because I was being cooperative and NOT wanting to create problems. Being laughed in our faces by the Steward when asked why we were being ejected and threatened with Civil Arrest when we wanted to leave. Don’t want anyone to lose job – would prefer being treated with a bit of respect or even spoken too like a human !”

Chairman’s son Jack Sullivan posted on his twitter account after seeing the footage “This is awful!!! Sending this to my dad, so we can make sure that these stewards won’t be back.”
