West Ham United’s six-goal demolition of Wrexham last night and their ensuing boosted goal difference has kept them in top spot for this weekend at least, after nearest rivals West Bromwich Albion missed an opportunity to go top, only being able to draw 1-1 at home to Queens Park Rangers in the lunchtime kick off which has now concluded.

Third placed Swansea City have leapfrogged WBA on goal difference – a position that will be confirmed should they hold onto their their own current 2 – 0 lead against Burnley.

All three teams are on 14 points, midway through the afternoon fixtures with the Hammers and West Brom results now confirmed.

Live table at half time, Saturday afternoon

West Ham will stay top of the League on goal difference today, with their healthy +11 being superior to the second placed Swans currently on +5, provided Swansea don’t go on a goalscoring rampage and rack up another six in the second half against bottom side Burnley.

However, bear in mind that the last games of “matchday 7″are not actually completed until Tuesday night, when Middlesboro play their game in hand and take on Millwall.

‘Boro can overhaul the Hammers should they stay ahead in this afternoon’s fixture (they’re winning 3-1 at half time) and also subsequently win against the Lions midweek.

For now, West Ham fans can sit back for the weekend and enjoy the view from the top of the table: Coming from nineteenth spot just four games ago serves as a reminder that even a short good or bad run of form has huge consequences in this ultra-competitive league where the gap between bottom side Burnley and top side West Ham is just nine points after seven games.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Thanks Martin – and I agree we should enjoy our latest victory and our current winning run

However the Championship is a marathon not a sprint so we just have to keep at it – the fact that we can bring on good subs (as has been pointed out on C&H) is a bonus but we should prepare for the long haul

Also credit to the much maligned Kretinski for making sure that we still have Bowen, Taty and Mavropanos – and Engels looks like a useful buy
