West Ham Exclusive: Hammers Want Out Of Deadline-Day Loan Deal

When the summer transfer window slammed shut, West Ham United announced the deadline-day arrival of Adama Boiro on a season-long loan from Athletic Bilbao, brought in to provide cover at left-back following the departure of El Hadji-Malick Diouf.

The 24-year-old Senegalese defender came through the Osasuna reserve team, joining Bilbao in 2024 for a fee in the region of €2m. He has already amassed more than 45 senior appearances across La Liga, the Champions League and the Europa League. The loan agreement to West Ham included an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

However, there were suggestions at the time that Boiro was not the club’s first-choice target. Instead, he is understood to have been offered to the Hammers by his representatives after several alternative targets turned down a move to east London.

Adama Boiro joined West Ham on a season-long loan from Athletic Club with an option to buy.

West Ham would like to terminate the deal for Adama Boiro

West Ham Want To End Boiro Loan Early

Fast forward to the present, and Boiro’s West Ham career has barely got off the ground. The defender has made just a 13-minute appearance against Derby County and was later an unused substitute during the away victory over Bolton Wanderers.

Supporters have been left puzzled by his absence, particularly given West Ham’s need for defensive cover on the left flank. That issue was highlighted once again during the recent 3-2 home defeat against Southampton, where a lack of depth in the position proved costly.

According to one of our sources, C&H has been informed that Boiro has unfortunately failed to meet the standards expected since arriving at the club. It is understood that Nuno Espírito Santo would prefer to end the arrangement early and send the defender back to his parent club. However, that can only happen if Athletic Bilbao agree to recall him.

In a situation similar to the loan agreement involving Jean-Clair Todibo and RC Lens, Athletic are believed to have little interest in taking the player back before the end of the deal.

The situation is causing additional frustration behind the scenes. Alongside Boiro, West Ham currently have Morato, Mukasa and Piroe occupying loan spots. With Championship clubs restricted to a maximum of five loan players eligible for matchday squads, carrying a player who is not even making the bench is far from ideal.

As things stand, Boiro’s place is consuming a valuable squad option and could further complicate West Ham’s plans when the January transfer window opens.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

Sorry Matt, but apparently ‘comments closed’ for Martin Treasure earlier piece.

Might I suggest that all who have paid for seats and regret doing so should return their tickets and give genuine supporters the opportunity of a London Stadium experience.

Games and results like the one against Southampton will be few and far between. All games are worth watching our team needs cheering and encouraging at every one.

We are all disappointed when we look like dross but that is life and it happens from time to time. We just have to look forward to the next game. Quick moan and get over it.

Is it simply a case of West Ham United not doing their homework? What are all these club “experts” doing when a new player is being looked at? Can’t blame Steidten for this one, so who did give the thumbs up?

Disasi springs to mind as loan or buy option in January.
Boiro was a panic selection due to whu leaving it late in transfer season.
Lesson to be learnt hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I mean, he can’t be any worse than Scarles can he?

Mistakes happen, sometimes you sign a player and it just doesn’t work out. However, in West Hams case, it seems utterly ludicrous that we have yet another example of a senseless signing and now we’re complaining he is taking a slot up that we really need for alternative players.

We’ve seen some semble of improvement in recruitment, let’s hope this is one of the last examples of a total folly for a while.

Fullkrug is on loan. Can we bring him back in January? Bloke is ripping the Bundesliga defences to shreds.

My God only three points off the top of the league. At what point did West Ham fans turn into a bunch of knee jerking tarts calling for the manager to be sacked every time they lose a game of football.
