West Ham fans could face parking ban

|

west-ham-uber-carWest Ham fans could be banned from parking in streets around the London Stadium on matchdays next season after locals complained they were nabbing their spaces.

Hackney Council has launched a consultation asking everyone who lives within a mile of the ground whether they would support the changes, which would come at no extra cost.

The new system would be similar to the one used for roads surrounding the Emirates Stadium.

When games are being played on a weekday the parking zone hours would be extended until 8.30pm, and on weekends it would be in place from 12pm to 4pm.

Hackney’s neighbourhoods boss Kim Wright said: “We are consulting about extending parking restrictions in the area around the London Stadium as the surrounding roads are currently extremely congested on match days, which makes it hard for residents to get around.

“Under the proposals, residents who have parking permits in the area would not need to pay more, they would just need to display their existing parking permit on match and event days.”

The consultation ends on June 30 and if the plans go ahead, the controls should be in by September and October.

This is the very system Newham use in Stratford and works well for residents.

How about running some trains? Closing a rail network on a match day is rather inconvenient to say the least.

Its a pain in the backside in Islington especially if you don’t support the gunners and forgot they were playing at home…
