Fact or fiction? That’s the first question that pops up when confronted with any news or ‘report’ of West Ham interest in any new player.
Indeed, looking across every ‘outlet’ or ‘news source’, last summer over two hundred different names were promoted as being on West Ham’s radar which, of course, cannot be true.
Whilst activity has seemed more subdued this summer, thanks to relegation from the all-powerful Premier League rumour mill, the links between West Ham and possible recruits have grown after the club’s high-profile player sales have potentially put them in funds: The arrival of Nils Koppen has given the Hammers a recruiter ready to go hunting much needed additions after ten player departures.
The links with Jamie Vardy aren’t new- indeed he was suggested as a Hammers target back in Bilic’s days but the now thirty-nine year old had quit English football last season for Italian side Cremonese, his best years clearly behind him, and that was assumed to be his swan song.

However West Ham have been linked with a move to sign the veteran player – our transfer source close to several key players at West Ham delivered the ‘Vardy verdict’ today, confirming there is substance behind the story that the Irons could well be seeking to sign the ex Leicester legend, perhaps to emulate Callum Wilson’s year as a Hammer:

As one, West Ham fans would welcome Vardy providing he isn’ t the only addition to the club’s goal scoring options – which of course is the fear.
Whilst he’s a different style of player, there’s no doubt Vardy could emulate the role that Teddy Sheringham played when the Hammers found themselves in the Championship with limited resources in 2004/5. Sheringham played as the elder statesmen then, popping up with crucial goals as an almost 40 year-old whilst the Hammers rebuilt their attack following the 2003/4 relegation.

Poor, is the only comment you can make. Vardy has been a great player and should have been in the England squad more in his younger days. However these days have long gone, could he do a job for us? Last 20 minutes sub? Maybe and only maybe!
Given the worrying lack of progress in signing players to fill the creative and goalscoring roles coupled with the news that the transfer budget is far less than was anticipated by supporters, the concern is that we are regressing back to the days of “we tried” and ending up with veterans and loan signings. Signing Parrott or Engels would change that, but the inability to secure this quality of player is concerning.
If Dju is available at a low price why not him ?
He has the potential to last many seasons and has the speed and a bit of a highly skilled Antonio about him in terms of being difficult to stop.
Seems as though nothing changes. Kretinsky after taking control of the club has seen 50,000 season ticket sales & thought why bother spending money on top young players. These fans will put up with cheap, old second rate players

I agree..why spend when the ticket sales show the fans will attend and buy kits no matter what the owners do. Own worst enemy the hammers fans! The only way this club will change is if the fans stayed home.
