These are the updated statistics for all West Ham managers since 1901 including games managed, games won, games drawn, games lost and overall win ratio.
David Moyes managed a 29% win ratio in his first period in charge but has dropped to 23% in his first thirteen games in charge in his second stint. Manuel Pellegrini finished his tenure with a 37.5% win ratio.
The most successful manager was Trevor Brooking with a win ratio of 64%
Outside of Caretaker managers, Billy Bonds was the most successful manager with a win ratio of 43% while outside of Moyes second stint Gianfranco Zola has been the worst with a win ratio of 28%.
Let me declare up front that I am a Statistician by trade.
I think a better overall statistic is “points per game” (calculated using the new allocation of 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss). Also in comparing it would be useful to divide the games up into those in the first tier vs those in the second tier (Premier League or old Division 1 vs championship or old Division 2) – then I think that managers such as Macari, Pardew, Bonzo and even BFS would look slightly worse
Despite all that I agree that Moyes record overall is of concern – he better boost it with at least 4 wins in our last 8 games – starting with either Spurs or Chelsea
You really think Moyes is to blame for this situation . He took over around 28th December because the owners avoided sacking Pellegrini until they had no choice . West ham had lost at home to Leicester CIty. The team is losing because it is rudderless. The whole structure of training and development has been in decline for the last 15 years since Tomkins and Noble came through. If i had been Moyes i would have turned the job down. One big achillies heel has been the constant turnover of players the constant quick fix foreigh signing strategy and the fact the club has only three scouts . Results have been poor under Moyes but there were just as bad, if not worse under Pellegrini . His team selections were diabolical . You have short memories. I think we are going down Because ellegrini simply ripped the firrst team squad apart in order to pay for a couple of overpriced foreigh players Liker Haller and Anderson . Not money well spent
Only we could replace a poor manager with someone worse.
Moyes has been abysmal since 2014, our big tactical plan to beat Wolves was to get Antonio to stand on the keepers feet at corners.
Feel we are doomed as with no fans there will be no help or pressure to get things right, I would sack him immediately and pay Pochachino a fortune to get us through this and worry about next season once we are secure.
Moyes is the problem not the solution.
Hard to compare the stats over years as a number of conditions and rules have changed eg transfer windows. But I generally agree with Jeremy’s comments.
