It seems pretty evident that West Ham’s former Hammer of the Year Aaron Wan Bissaka is likely to leave the club in the coming weeks – whether to Arsenal or another Premier League club is far from clear but ‘AWB’ does seem another on Nuno’s exit list after the player’s Congo ‘overstay’ during the height of West Ham’s relegation battle.
Reported today, it seems in Irons are planning for life after ‘AWB’ with interest being shown in a free signing, one with huge amounts of experience.
Teamtalk.com’s suggestion is that the Irons are considering a move for 34 year old English – born free signing James Tavernier, amidst interest from a host of sides both English and from across the pond, apparently:
‘West Ham United have also held conversations over Tavernier, although their interest is dependent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaving the London Stadium before they pursue a replacement.’
Useful as cover for Kyle Walker Peters without breaking the bank, Tavernier could certainly do a job in the Championship, having spent eleven years north of the boarder seemingly an ever-present at Rangers.

However Everton, Aston Villa and Tavernier’s former club Newcastle will surely be ahead of West Ham as all have a top – tier opportunity for the defender who could no doubt choose that over a drop to the ultra competitive Championship having run down his contract and left Glasgow Rangers this summer.

We need some mature leaders especially as we are likely to have quite a few breakthroughs from the academy. If he signs it’ll be for cover and providing the odd busman’s holiday to KWP. Not a silly move.
