Soucek reveals his future decision is MADE as West Ham provide update on injury

Image for Soucek reveals his future decision is MADE as West Ham provide update on injury

Some confusion remains over Tomas Soucek’s injury sustained in the Czech Republic’s last group game before being eliminated from the World Cup.

Initial reports suggested that ‘Tornado Tom’ – who was seen to go over on his ankle in pretty horrendous TV images at the time – had sustained an ACL injury as well as ankle damage: A pretty devastating combination for a footballer.

West Ham United have provided an update today on Soucek’s situation.

Interestingly, there is no mention of any knee or ACL injury in the club’s update today. Instead, the release on whufc.com states:

“West Ham United can confirm that Tomáš Souček will undergo further assessment on the ankle injury he sustained at the World Cup finals last week.

Souček suffered ligament damage to his left ankle during Czechia’s final group match against Mexico in Mexico City on Thursday.

West Ham United Performance Director Richard Collinge said: “Tomáš will return to London later this week for further evaluation and assessment on his ankle before a final decision is made on the best form of injury management, with the aim of returning to action as soon as possible.”

Which throws into doubt any knee injury: The ankle problem was well documented and visible from the TV broadcast but the Hammers make no mention of a further knee injury – which can only be good news for Soucek: An ankle injury is plenty to be getting on with.

Soucek did manage to hobble from the pitch onto the  waiting stretcher, so you’d hope there was no complicated break or anything too severe. Needless to say we all keep our fingers crossed for better news when Soucek gets his evaluation completed at West Ham’s medical centre.

And as for the player himself? In an emotional instagram post, Tomas Soucek has pledged his future to West Ham United in an unequivocal fashion:

“This injury doesn’t change my mindset. If anything, it makes me even more determined. I’ll use these next few weeks/months to work, recover and come back stronger. As a player, as a teammate and as a person.

Since the season ended, I’ve only had one thing on my mind. West Ham United. This club means so much to me and I’m ready to do everything I can in helping get it back to where it belongs; to the English Premier League.”

For the immediate future, I’ll support the boys off the pitch whilst I rehabilitate. Then once back, I’ll give everything I have on the pitch, fighting alongside the boys once again.
COYI!”

Brilliant news, now get well soon Tomas.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

With the injury, was always going to be staying, but will be huge plus when he gets fit again. Has a genuine affinity for the club which is rare in this day and age.

He’ll get one hell of a cheer when he comes back onto the pitch, that’s for sure.
