West Ham transfers | Suddenly signing Ramsdale seems like a very good idea

With Lucas Fabianski being released at the end of a hugely successful seven years at West Ham, the goalkeeper cupboard is getting very bare. Alphonse Areola does have his struggles with Potter’s preferred possession-based style, and only Wes Foderingham remains as cover.

The Hammers were well known to be trying to secure Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher but were soundly beaten to the Irish stopper’s signature by Brentford.

Which had left West Ham reportedly focussing on ‘the relegation’ Aaron Ramsdale, thrice- relegated, once England Keeper: Undoubtedly once – talented but struggling last year to keep th goals out at Southampton.

However the emergence of West Ham’s interest in the ultimate in ‘calamity’ keepers has made many reconsider Ramsdale: In the light of Chelsea’s negotiations with West Ham over a Kudus sale involving their infamous goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, the Irons are really now playing with fire. As reported by Skys’ Kaveh Solhekol:

It would appear that Potter’s team asked about the availability of Chelsea’s infamous calamity keeper Robert Sanchez, which would come as a huge relief to Chelsea fans who cannot wait to see the back of him. Suddenly I’m warming to Ramsdale, or frankly ‘anyone but Sanchez’. Too many parallels with the never- to-be forgotten Roberto era at West Ham United.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

The fact that Brentford beat us to a signing shows what a two-Bob club West Ham are.
Ramsdale will be a good signing in our preparation for the Championship…..👎

Not related to Ramsdale ..Martin or anyone else at C&H….but i think this would be a good purchase for me…..i liked him at Sheff Utd and he did brilliantly at Arsenal until Legohair dented his confidence and it was downhill from there…joining Southampton was a strange one for me as they were clearly going to struggle……Get this man in rebuild his confidence and understand that if we also keep Areola that neither GK are going to be Sweeper keepers so stop all the nonsense of messing around at the back and putting players under pressure trying to do something they do not have the skill set to do

Another pro Ramsdale piece by C&H makes me convinced we will sign him .

I remember all the C&H positive posts ahead of us signing Evan Ferguson.

Surely Potter and Kyle and the data led team have other options?

Ramsdale is nailed on to join us! He is a Sullivan type signing all day long despite C&H and others that will claim Potter really likes him.

  • J loppy says:

Ramsdale would be a disaster and a complete waste of money. The only person who thinks Aaron Ramsdale is any good, is Aaron Ramsdale

    • Time for Change says:

The other people who rate him are Sullivan, C&H and Ramsdale’s Mum 😂

  • Peter the Dutchman says:

Calling Ramsdale “calamity” is a little unfair given the defences he had in front of him at the relegated clubs?

    • RhodesIron says:

Lol, have you seen our defence 🤦‍♂️

    • Jon says:

Ramsdale is used to playing behind a dodgy defence so he will fit right in at West Ham and can add a 4th relegation to his CV if he joins.

  • Macephtopheles says:

I’d honestly rather take Sanchez over Ramsdale.

Yeah, he’s had some high profile errors at Chelsea but his record at Brighton and Chelsea is effectively around slightly over a goal per game conceded. His stats are far superior to Ramsdale, he’s comfortable with the ball at his feet and distribution and he hasn’t been relegated 3 times in his career.

If we did sign him, I’d see him as more of an Adrian than a Roberto.

  • Martin says:

And just how hard did the club try to sign Kelleher??
The usual shit coming out of the club

    • Jon says:

If you had a choice of joining Brentford or us it would be a pretty easy choice for Kelleher and he would’ve ended up where he is now!

  • Mick bering says:

To late to get Ramsdale Hes now talking to other clubs

    • Time for Change says:

Hope you’re right but with Martin constantly writing positive posts I’d say Ramsdale already is joining us.

      • Martin Treasure says:

        ‘one’ positive post

        • Time for Change says:

Do you suffer from memory loss? You’ve mentioned him so many times over the last few weeks.

        • Time for Change says:

It wasn’t you then that wrote just 4 days ago that Ramsdale may be ideal signing on a season long loan? 🤔

          Must be another Martin Treasure
