The meeting was well attended by around 75 people. The West Ham United Supporters Club (Social Club) was represented by its Chair and two committee members. An agreement was made, in principle, to set up a West Ham Independent Supporters Association (WHISA). Such an association was already in existence but had stalled and has been dormant. Now all but one of the committee have resigned their positions and made available the association for a new committee to take over. This is a magnificent gesture and allows the association to be up and running almost immediately. The remaining person in the original group is on holiday but is welcome to continue their role as a committee member if they wish. All people that resigned are also welcome to become committee members.
The Social Club have agreed in principle to be a part of the new WHISA and the campaign for the Social Club to have a presence at the new ground begins now. Unfortunately it seems likely that in the current climate the Social Club will close completely in the next few months so time is of the essence. I was made interim chair (thanks everyone ?!? I think) and will head a working group which will meet in the next 7-10 days to take this new venture further forwards.
A meeting of the new WHISA will take place on Saturday 5th November at the Social Club before the Stoke City match with a start time to be confirmed. It is expected that elections will take place to form the first committee at this meeting.
All West Ham United fans are urged to join the new WHISA and while a website is being set up a Facebook page will be created for people to be a part of as we move forward. Further details will be posted once this is done. Membership is especially welcome of West Ham fans in supporters clubs already set up in the British Isles and from around the world.
My thanks go to the Social Club Chair and committee for their valued input and support as well as the use of the Social Club to host the meeting. Thanks to Alan for taking the minutes. A massive thanks to all who have offered their help. What a great bunch of Hammers fans were there yesterday.
It was good to be at the Social Club again and it was an excellent meeting with a number of people making great points. Please remember this is an association that will put forward the interests of its membership and not the committee. We need as many people to join as possible to help make it a success.
And we beat Sunderland……..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
