West Ham’s ambitious pursuit

The Daily Mirror has reported that the Hammers are keeping a close eye on none other than nomadic winger, Ousmane Dembele. Whilst West Ham’s ambitious pursuit seems exciting on the surface, I’m not sure the story is completely believable.

Dembele was once hailed as one of Europe’s brightest prospects, the French international’s journey since leaving Borussia Dortmund has been somewhat patchy. Despite moves to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, he hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations, leaving his potential in need of reignition.

The reported interest from West Ham, Arsenal, and Spurs demonstrates the allure Dembele still holds. However, the financial implications of securing Dembele’s services cannot be ignored.

Whilst the wages required for Dembele may seem astronomical, the persistence of these rumours in consecutive weeks raises the possibility that there might be some truth to them.

For West Ham, the advantage lies in our ability to provide regular first-team football, something that Dembele desperately needs at this stage of his career. David Moyes can present Dembele with an opportunity to showcase his talent on a consistent basis, reigniting the spark that once made him a standout talent.

Despite the links, it’s hard to imagine that there are not more pressing concerns in the playing squad. The Frenchman is undoubtedly a talented player, however it would be surprising if West Ham’s next signing is not a striker.

There remains a lack of depth at full-back too, should Emerson or Vladimir Coufal succumb to injury.
