We’ve always beaten big clubs but this is different

ClaretandHugh has entered into partnership with Hammers Chat who produce our weekly video blog Row Z based on the week’s events as reported on this site. Here,  presenter Gonzo reacts to yesterday’s game which he describes as “a watershed moment.”

Yesterday was a bit of a watershed moment for me. It was at half-time at home to City when the realisation finally hit home that we are actually a bloody good team.

West Ham have always had the ability to beat the big teams on occasion but this is different. . . very different. It now seems as if we can pose problems for the mega-clubs on a consistent basis and it is a strange twist of fate that has seen the Boleyn become a fortress during its last season.

Granted, we need our best players on the pitch to compete but even yesterday we were causing problems to the mega rich Manchester giants with FOUR first team players missing.

We have a good keeper, a strong defence whoever is selected, an industrious midfield and some truly effective attacking players led by the majestic Dimitri Payet. Our team have played all the perceived top clubs and none of them have caused us any problems, amusingly I find myself fully confident of going to Anfield and progressing in the cup.

We are about to enter a new era with a modern stadium and a team that looks worthy of playing in it. We are about to catapult ourselves financially up the world rich list of clubs which is remarkable give that it has been an ‘organic’ process rather than via a sugardaddy.

The fear was (albeit one peddled by others) that we would either enter Stratford in the lower leagues or not be entertaining enough to fill the ground and both look ridiculous predictions now.

The future is bright and the future is Claret & Hugh.

Be careful what I wish for? I don’t think I will thank you very much.
