OF COURSE it isn’t likely – or probably appropriate – for West Ham’s board to ditch their manager three games into the Championship season.
However, from fan anger over the lack of progress made in Nuno’s forty games in charge, there’s clearly a groundswell of dissatisfaction with ‘negative Nuno’ which can’t go on much beyond the International break next month if the ‘wins’ don’t start arriving.
So, Gonzo’s report on ‘next West Ham United Manager contenders’ caught my eye as I started thinking ‘what if?’: Who would be in the mix and available for the job?
And the list the betting web site have come up as their ‘top five contenders’ has some surprisingly good candidates:
Former Hammer Scott Parker knows how to get out of the Championship
Scott Parker – perfect to get West Ham out of the mire in the second division but not good enough for the Premier League
Craig Bellamy (yes please!) – apparently almost joined Burnley this summer so his Wales position is ‘uncertain‘. A five million gig in east London would surely turn his head.
Kieran McKenna – Another manager perfectly placed to help West Ham climb out of the Championship and currently ‘on a break’.
Thomas Frank – Available, but would he ‘slum it’ in the second division? Perhaps his career needs a rebuild after the Tottenham debacle.
Sean Dyche – If Sullivan were in control he’d be top of the list but hopefully the new-look West Ham board wouldn’t….Would they?
Any of the five could do the job for West Ham if needed: Joking aside, the key for the Hammers board will be to avoid hanging on to Nuno until Christmas if results aren’t coming, by which time most of those named above will have new jobs anyway.
Good managers don’t tend to be out of work for long.

Take the others and spend more time in the Championship, it took Howe years to get out it. Frank took years to get out. Parker cannot keep a side up in the Premiership. So let’s face who is the one man who can take you up in one go and can keep you there and allow the team to consolidate and grow strong. Much is said against Dyche and yet look at Everton, look at Forest who saved them and made them strong. The man is good at what he does, if we had taken him instead of Nuno last season we would still be up in the top league. Sean does not just ask for success he demands it. No more “I am a star and I don’t feel like playing today”. No more lack lustre performances. Work, work, work. Hurry Sean we need you.
Ridiculous choices. The only manager there that is arguably an upgrade on Nuno is Thomas Frank. The others are not good enough and have achieved nowhere near what Nuno has in his career and never will. West Ham need to be patient with Nuno, nobody has had a harder job in the Championship with so many players leaving. This culture of sacking managers has to stop. It rarely improves things. The time to sack Nuno was in June, not now. If West Ham help Nuno in the transfer market before the deadline the wins will come and keep coming. But they must sign a left back and a centre back. If they don’t then Nuno is not the problem.
Thomas Frank? That big eared joker that almost got Tottenham relegated? Have a word with yourself.
That’s why I said ‘arguably’. Didn’t say I want Thomas Frank. Maybe pay attention to what someone says before commenting.

Our stupid board already missed opportunities to get in former players who understand the connection with fans. Could have had Craig Bellamy, Scott Parker, Gary O Neil, Michael Carrick, at various points in the past but always gave preference to the foreign coaches.
Bellamy for me just because he is a winner.

Scott Parker or Craig Bellamy? Seriously? Remember NES’s points per game over an entire season would have given us a seventh place finish. Stats across the first 3 games show that there’s a fine margin between success and failure and I really hope we can start to turn dominance into wins and have some stability, Imho the last thing we need is yet another change of manager,

Of all the positives from the last game,one above all others- sack Nuno before it is too late to give the incoming manager the chance to turn it around
Let’s put it this way, we need to score around 90goals to be promoted , if Nuno persists with a defensive 4-4-1-1 as he did against Watford you can forget promotion

This is the problem, when good managers are available the board dither, when they need a manager the best have new jobs. For me it’s Parker or Mc kena.
All out of work managers are a red flag. However if I had to choose the order would be

Parker
McKenna
Dyche
STILL Avoid Frank. He’s Moyes 5.0
Starting point Nuno needs to look in mirror and realise academy (moderately) can save his job.
Eddie Howe would be good choice but Staveley shouldn’t be used as a connection.
Nobody actually knows if she will ever come to club and if she does how long will it take.
Fans won’t like Parker style whatever end result.
Frank was unfortunate with Spurs due to all their squad injuries.
Dyche don’t think so his playing style wouldn’t suit.
Which leaves Bellamy and McKenna either of these sound a good shout.

Craig Bellamy who earns around 500k at Wales, you’d pay 5 million? You think we’d be the only ones interested in Frank if he wanted to return? That’s if he wanted to return as I am sure he doesn’t want to mess up the 18 million departure agreement he had with Spurs. Parker, an excellent choice as he will know we’d drop him on promotion. That’s going to cost you, at least you didn’t suggest Eddie Howe. You get points for that.

With the board currently scheming against each other I think that it is unlikely that they could reach consensus on a new manager – one name missing from the list is Eddie Howe – I think he would be nailed on if Staveley is successful in taking over
