What’s happened at West Ham? Top fan/journo nails it

|

The running track, the gin and tonic bars, the stewarding, the board, the popcorn feel of an athletics bowl. Who cares?

For those who don’t know, THIS is the West Ham Way. Cavalier football, played with rich quality at high speed — well done, Mr Pellegrini. Now, can we have some more soon?

The manager has overseen a transformation from the dishevelled outfit from the suddenly distant early days of this season to a side throbbing with energy and attacking menace. They were the only team here who looked as if they knew what they were doing.”

Nailed it!

We are now playing the West Ham Way, but Cavalier not.
The reason we are doing so well is the fact that we defend as a team and hold on for possession no matter what. We fight as soon as we lose the ball to get it back immediately. Nothing cavalier about any of it.
It’s really the difference between Lyall and Greenwood, where Lyall insisted on adding steel to Greenwood’s cavaliers.
The secret of our attacking is the one-touch, which is getting better game by game, and will hopefully soon become second nature to the whole squad. Very Greenwood-esque.
We certainly bought in some great players. I thought it would take 10 games for the new players to settle in, but it has only taken 4.

I agree he has overseen a transformation but it was and still is a work in progress, if every game we keep improving like we have we will finish top half maybe towards the middle of top half, there will be blips, now that we have lost Sanchez for possibly the season, with Wilshere and Lanzini injured we don’t have any cover in central midfield so that has to be a worry, I don’t know if we have the option to recall Cullen from Charlton, @Sean W do you know whether that is an option ?

Good article. There was a great line in there somewhere where he described Noble as having a heart the size of a double portion of pie and mash.

Why would you recall Cullen when you have Powell and Coventry to step into midfield? I know they are only just starting their careers but they looked every bit as comfortable as the rest of the team on Wednesday.
