If Jesse Lingard can’t make up his mind we need to move on and not wait for the phone call that may never come like some jilted lover with unrequited love.
Lingard was great on loan for the Hammers and we have those great memories but he appears to have made up his mind to stay at Manchester United so good luck to him and we shouldn’t be keeping a place warm for him in case he changes his mind.
We already have a ready-made replacement in Said Benrhama who is like a new signing, he is on fire in the pre-season scoring two goals and setting up many others. He was easily the man of the match on Saturday at the London Stadium and he looks set to fill that void left by Jesse Lingard.
To be honest Lingard’s form dropped off at the end of the seaosn and if he did re-join the Hammers he might have struggled to displace Benny from his first-team berth. I felt Benrhama was a little in Lingard’s shadow for the second half of last season but now he has the oppotunity to really shine.
I get the point and totally agree that Benrahma can fill Jesse’s boots and I would be happy not to resign Lingard as we can spend our money on younger players. We will need to replace Lingard with an attacking midfielder but that player could be more a wide player that could cover as a 10 (for Benrahma). We need to sign a CB, replacements for Lingard and Haller and lets be creative and sign young hungry players not players like Lingard or Abraham who imply does not suit our system of play. I see us linked with Origi, I do like him but is he better than Antonio, not so sure but at 15m he is a heck of a better option than Abraham.
I don’t think Man U really want to keep him. They’ll be hoping for a bidding war which we shouldn’t be a part of. The idea of Origi appeals as he is hungry. He has his own way of playing which is different to Antonio- can be used as a target man.Not as quick as A. but who is? But yeah we do need a back up for Benrahma.
