Who on Earth Would be Crazy Enough to Join West Ham Now?

I suppose one of the few benefits of the transfer merry-go-round is the distraction it provides from watching West Ham United on the pitch.

Following the Hammers’ ninth game without a win — in which Nuno Espírito Santo’s side failed to register a single shot on target against what may well be the worst team in Premier League history — it prompts a fairly brutal question: who would honestly join the club now?

Rumours persist of a move for Charlie Cresswell from Toulouse, but surely he would have to say no at this stage.

Going into the game at Molineux, potential signings could at least convince themselves that West Ham might scrap their way out of Premier League trouble. After the 3–0 mauling by Wolverhampton Wanderers, is there really any debate left that we look like the worst side in the division?

A Club No One Wants to Join

Not only are the Hammers losing, they are doing so without any clear style or plan that might entice a new arrival. There is nothing about the current approach that suggests a project worth buying into.

Spare a thought for Pablo Felipe Pereira de Jesus, who has just joined the club and must already be wondering where on earth his service is supposed to come from.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if agents and representatives of potential signings are now avoiding phone calls from David Sullivan after yesterday’s debacle. Because make no mistake about it — West Ham’s task of recruiting players has just become a whole lot harder.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

Hope Castellanos joins – NES wants this kind of player, does not rate Wilson and does not fancy Marshall (these fancy dandy PL managers are like that) plus he will bring experience and a cool head in front of goal (as Wilson does), plus he is 27 – that is brilliant for WHU.

Of course want a CB and this is being greedy, but an experienced 24-27 yo midfielder. Paqueta cannot do it, think he is suffering a wee bit and the youngsters are not quite there yet.

Glad to see some forwards come in because Bowen cannot eternally carry the front line either. I know we need other positions, also new boardroom, a new stadium would be nice, umm anything else?

Anyway, it’s not over till the fat man sings the finale (for a change).

The owners ruined Birmingham City and they are doing the same to us.

  • Phil Baker says:

Westham , as a Championship squad are going to need many of the academy players that are being actively hawked at the moment . All of the highly paid stars will leave including Bowen . Westham are dead meat .

Does good player turns bad overnight ?
It looks like the team team doesn’t want to play for Nuno.

I fully understand any reluctance to join West Ham at the moment but even if we do manage to do so we are only papering over cracks. I think we all know that the problem is mismanagement, the club is badly run. Lack of foresight and a huge waste of money on the recruitment of players just for starters. The rebuild should have started during Moyes final year,we messed about then to,I assume, save a few quid. The board didn’t do their homework and continued to fudge around and do things on the cheap, doing things on the cheap never lasts and here we are today. We didn’t need a crystal ball to see where this was going,West Ham fans have been saying this for ages,we know our club. If the board have a shred of decency and respect for the fans they should resign and allow the club to be rebuilt. Regardless if we are Premiership or Championship next season we need a change at the top.

Moyes final year was a transfer mess because he couldn’t work with Steidten, especially as the latter was the reason Moyes was having to leave. No decent manager gives up the right to have a final say in transfers, so he couldn’t sign that new contract offer in December 2023 and the rest is history

  • Mick bering says:

Maresca and Billic as his assistant There both available and know each other inside out The only way out of our present situation

  • Sue says:

We have still got to sign the Lazio striker and Cresswell now to give us any chance, even for a new manager. We will need players signed and ready to play. If we do turn it around those players will be vital for next season

    • Martin Treasure says:

agreed, Sue, but if you were either of them, wouldn’t you run for the hills at the mere thought of signing for West Ham after yesterday’s rubbish?

      • Jimbo 2 says:

Not if they have relegation clauses and can earn decent money for 6 months before moving on again for a decent signing on fee.

This is how it works Martin. Oh and if they join now they hardly need to make too much effort given yesterday’s performance.

    • Zahama says:

I am not advocating for the return of BFS – but at both Palace and Sunderland he avoided relegation by signing players who had fallen out with the manager of their current club – so it is possible

  • Rob says:

I was hoping we would get Cresswell but I can’t see it happening now. The board need to hang their heads in shame as the problem is so little and poor investment in players as lead to no competition for places. Only place their is competition possibly is full backs and goalkeeper and they sometimes look like the best part of the team.

  • Harvey Fox says:

Who would move here? Let’s see. Players wanting to go to the world cup who aren’t playing and players looking for a stepping stone to a bigger move.

  • Kenny Irons says:

Under Sullivan, we’ll be the next Sheffield Wednesday……

  • John Ayris says:

As of the present moment we’re blowing out in the most comprehensive way imaginable, we look done.

When are AWB and Diouf likely to be back ?

Pablo is definite and looks to have good stats, what’s the latest on Castellanos ?

Any news on when Todibo and Paqueta will be fit ?

Forest on Tuesday is only a couple of days off, QPR on Sunday isn’t a league game buys a bit of time when the chances of us winning the FA Cup look like zilch.

Clutching at straws ? Not much….
