Wilshere injury problems take new twist

|

Manuel Pellegrini has admitted he is uncertain how bad Jack Wilshere’s ankle injury is and therefore how long he could be absent from the first team squad.

Having ruled him out of Saturday’s action against Fulham at Craven Cottage, the former Gunner’s signing is beginning to look more and more like a gamble that could backfire.

As we commented earlier, many fans and the board were concerned with signing him for three years with the the board leaning heavily towards a 12 month contract.

Pellegrini has now revealed that the injury he suffered was perhaps not entirely as had been explained previously which adds another level of anxiety.

He said when asked if the injury is more serious than was at first thought: “Maybe, because when he felt the pain it was in his ‘good’ ankle – it was not the ankle where he had the surgery.

“We hoped it was just a pain and that he could adjust for two or three days but for different things it has been longer than we expected.

“It is very difficult to know. Maybe the doctor can answer better than me – yesterday he did a medical examination and when we get the results we will know.”

So far this season Wilshere has made just four appearances and a cameo at Newcastle and it’s bitterly disappointing that he should be struck down again after such a productive season at Arsenal last term.

He made 38 appearances but failed to come to an agreement with new Arsenal boss Unai Emery on a deal that would have kept him in north London.
