Few players in the squad have more reason to be determined and optimistic than Jack Wilshere.

His injury misery has been well documented but pre-season appears to have shown that he has worked very hard at Rush Green earlier in the summer.

He looks fit and ready proving himself the best of the bunch over the Asian tournament and he is clearly more than ready physically and verbally for the season ahead.

Not too many of us perhaps would have been backing him to be the pre season ‘star’ of the show but with some fine disguised passing, deft flicks and control of midfield, there can’t be to many arguments.

And he has made it clear that he believes that the first month of the season will be critical as the team look to make progress from where they finished last season when producing a fine climax to the season.

Speaking at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/july/24-july/wilshere-we-need-set-tone-strong-start he said: “We need to make sure we start right. Last year obviously we started badly – we lost the first four games and then we’re playing catch-up.

“We need to prepare for the opening four games before the international break and see where we are after that.

“We want to push as high as we can – we beat Arsenal last year, we beat United, we beat Chelsea so we know we can beat them. It’s against the smaller teams that we need to focus more and pick up points.
