Winter window may have hurt Moyes

|

David Moyes’ chances of becoming a permanent West Ham boss may have been jeopardised by his dealings in the winter transfer market.

The sole signings of out-of-contract Patrice Evra and £10 million striker Jordan Hugill have concentrated minds in the club as the summer review approaches.

It will be at that meeting in June when a decision will be made on the the manager’s future and it is certainly no ‘given’ that – despite securing the team’s Premier League survival – he will get the ‘gig.’

There was disappointment and frustration inside the club over the hesitancy in the winter window and at the final decisions which will see both players leave with the club likely to take a hit on Hugill.

With so much work to be done this summer the club will need to make a very quick decision on Moyes and although candidates appear to be thin on the ground it won’t stop the club moving on from the former Everton boss should that’s the way the board vote.

Moyes has regularly refused to make any comment on his own feelings which are a hidden factor in the situation as he may feel – given all the problems at the club, his work is done.

Well I think Carvalho was who he wanted to sign, you can’t blame him for that, as for Evra cover was required because of Masuaku’s sending off and also Carroll was injured so Huggil was a last resort signing after the chairmen again failed to provide suitable resources to sign a top quality striker. Tell the chairmen to give him £200m to spend and we might get the quality he needs at the top end of the table but more likely we will get a series of relegated players and loan deals with maybe one half decent player.

Never wanted Moyes at West Ham, but the more I read the more I’m beginning to think he’s being hung out to dry.
Was the travesty in the last window entirely down to him? Or lack of backing from the board?
I’d absolutely love it if he tells Sully to stick his job at seasons end.

  • Are you sure you don’t want to hang the board out to dry every time you comment Mary?

Sorry Hugh, wasn’t aware they were untouchable.
Also thought they were valid questions?!?
And yes, I detest them for what I perceive to be their absolutely shocking running of the club, the lies and deceit peddled.
Of course I’m aware I’m in the minority on this particular website, but hey ho.
And no, I’d rather the penalty be death by dildo than hanging.

  • Valid but the same question every time and no they are not untouchable as I am about to write but I worry when one group or – or one person – is hammered all the time and everyone else regarded as being innocent. Life is full of prejudice but it seems unbalanced to me

I don’t blame the board or the current manager for this season’s mess – I blame the players. They were determined against Southampton and the opposite in too many games. I did hope that Moyes would up their workrate and attitude but there appears to be something ingrained into West Ham for them to constantly lack fight and passion. I trust the board to provide what money the club can afford but £200m is way beyond West Ham finances. We need a huge clear out but I don’t know if I trust the current manager to do that. Remember that he said that he treats every transfer as though its his money – he is Scottish!! The noisy fans have been quick to blame the board but we spent more than usual last summer and everyone was happy at that time. I think the board are easy targets.

I think the board are so out of their depth. They cannot or will not spend what is needed but refuse to sell to someone who can. We could be locked into this cycle until 2023 when they can sell up with no financial punishment. God! What a prospect.
