Yarmo comes out on top

Andriy Yarmolenko’s hugely emotional goal against Aston Villa in the important Premier League victory has seen the Ukranian pick up the Goal of the Month award, presented by Skye Cloud.

It was an exquisite strike with the outside of his boot and sent incredibly scenes through the squad and the fans.

Indeed, Declan revealed afterwards that Andriy had sat alone in the dressing room after the game obviously trying to absorb the last few days and weeks of his life followed by such a goal scoring event.

The Ukraine international’s strike against Aston Villa took first place in the poll, beating competition from Saïd Benrahma’s volley at Tottenham Hotspur, and Pierre Ekwah’s goal for the U23s against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Yarmolenko had come off the bench to receive an amazing welcome from all quarters of the ground – including Villa’s – but nobody could imagine what might follow.

The goal was eventually declared the best of the month after he had taken superb control of Benrahma’s pass and produce an immediate finish out of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s reach.
