Andriy Yarmolenko was the hero again as West Ham came from 1-0 down on aggregate to knock Sevilla out of the Europa League.
Up against the most successful team in the competition’s history, the Hammers knew that they would need to turn in an elite performance against Julen Lopetegui’s men.
They did just that, as well, as they won 1-0 in 90 minutes and then scored the winner in the 111th minute, as Yarmo tapped home after Pablo Fornals’ effort from range was parried by Sevilla’s goalkeeper.
The two halves of normal time were punctuated by real periods of Hammers pressure, although they somewhat struggled to turn it into clear-cut chances.
The first big chance actually came Sevilla’s way but Youssef En-Nesyri’s effort from inside the box was saved brilliantly by Alphonse Areola in acrobatic fashion.
Mikey Antonio missed a one-on-one in what looked like the clearest opportunity of the half before Tomas Soucek scored the opener in typical fashion.
Mikey did some superb work down the left flank and crossed, with Soucek sending a brilliant header into the top corner to bring the scores level.
The second half was a nervy affair with little goalmouth action, and Yarmo proved the hero once again.
Having scored against Aston Villa at the weekend, he once again put the ball in the back of the net, as he pounced on a rebound to give the Hammers a historic victory.
