You think our window’s over? Maybe not quite

Oi. ‘hurry up – time’s running out for a striker

To all intents and purposes the signing of a central defender was believed to be the end of West Ham’s summer spending but frankly I find that hard to believe.

When West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini claimed after Saturday’s match he was happy with his strikers and the squad,  there was an audible groan of disbelief in ClaretandHugh Towers!

No manager is ever happy if he can get more players – nor should he be – and despite outlining all the virtues of Chicharito’s game after two seasons of disappointment and the ever present threat of injuries, that really is a tough one to swallow.

Today came a clue from the boss that he may have been telling the mildest of porkies when he declared with four days of the window left: ” “I will analyse with [director of football] Mario Husillos and the owner [David Sullivan] and we will decide this week what we must work on.”

In other words he wants another player (or two) and it’s clear to absolutely everybody, their wives, children and pets (lol) that a striker is the position he surely needs to fill.

There are rumours around tonight that we are in the hunt for one and from what we know of the manager and board they do love a deal – be it loan or something permanent – in the final countdown or on deadline day.

The have made a near practice of it since they entered ownership entered ownership at Birmingham City 27 years ago.

The usual cat and mouse game of bid/refusal/second bid/ refusal etc will no doubt be acted out but I will be surprised …and disappointed –  if a fourth striker doesn’t arrive at the end of it all.

And with the manager averse to loan deals it seems more likely from where we are sitting that permanent deal could be on the cards.

Ok it’s not a time to get OVER EXCITED but enough clues are being dropped to believe something is in the wind!

I hope there’s some business but other than the CB Portugal Defender unless it’s far (insert swear word) better than Perez and especially Sanchez (2 of our worst ever deadline day signings at least) then i don’t want anyone else other than for Sanchez to leave

  • Claret says:

They need to sell Hernandez & replace him with a younger more mobileforward but most of all we need a good DM otherwise we will still leak goals

  • Whammer1 says:

IMO we need a left back as well as we shipped many goals down our left unless MP is happy with Johnson on that side to cover Cressie or be in the starting 11
