Jonjo, is the youngest person to receive the BEM in this year’s awards and one of the youngest ever to be given the honour. Jonjo, started his football-themed fundraising walks five years ago and has raised £235,000 for the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
He was inspired to start raising money after his beloved nan Lyn died of bowel cancer in February 2009 aged just 60. As a passionate West Ham fan, he was aware his footballing hero Bobby Moore had died of bowel cancer and decided to do all his fundraising for in honour of Bobby and his nan. This morning he was interviewed live on BBC Breakfast TV.
This morning CandH associate editor, Sean Whetstone spoke to Jonjo to congratulate him and pass on the best wishes from all those at Claret and Hugh. Jonjo told Claret and Hugh “I’m really proud to be on the New Years honours list. It’s really unreal that I could get a British Empire Medal at 13 years old and be the youngest. Thank you to all the West Ham fans who have helped me. I’m really proud to be a Hammer and part of the West Ham family.”
Many congratulations and what a wonderful accomplishment for a 13 year old, he has done himself and our club proud…
