Striker leaves Hammers for loan deal

|
gordon444-293x300West Ham have loaned out Jaanai Gordon on a season long loan to Newport County.
After the transfer window opened earlier today Newport announced on their official website:  “Newport County AFC are pleased to announce the loan signing of forward Jaanai Gordon who joins the club from West Ham United.  The twenty one year old striker joins the Exiles in time for tomorrow’s Sky Bet League two encounter with Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.   The Northampton born forward was signed by West Ham in 2014 after two years at Peterborough. He has been out on loan at Chelmsford, Nuneaton and Sligo Rovers.”
Speaking after the loan deal had been agreed manager Graham Westley said “My main priority in this window is to strengthen our back 4 and defensive midfield options. It is obvious that we need to be better at both ends of the pitch and we all know that Rhys is off back to Cardiff.  Jaanai is a player with the potential to change games. It is a good start to building a momentum and winning team in the second half of the season.”

I’m not sure about the wisdom of this loan..
It may give him some more playing time, and assist in his future development, but..
Can we afford such a move at a time when the depth of our first team squad is so low?
