West Ham United are planning summer talks with inspirational defender Winston Reid and have privately slapped an £11 million price tag on the player.

The brilliant Kiwi  has, of course, only just returned from a 12 week injury absence – and has been sorely missed.

He has a year and a half left on his current deal and ClaretandHugh has learned that Arsenal are interested in a player who has got better and better over his time at the Boleyn.

Arsene Wenger  is watching our position  and could be tempted to come in with a bid in the summer.

However,  Hammers insiders have made it clear that Reid will be offered a new deal, that he is under lock and key until the summer of 2016 and that any attempts to sign him will start at £11 million!

Reid’s recent long term absence from action coincided with a big slump in the club’s fortunes and the Hammers are determined to move heaven and earth to keep their star man.

But should the pressure come on from the Emirates they know the sort of bid which might tempt them into talks.

A source told us exclusively:”We want Winston to stay and become a part of our Olympic Stadium experience.

“The talking would have to start at £11 million for us to be interested. It’s a given that contract talks will start in the summer. “
