How we rated the Irons against Leeds

|

Hughie hands out his marks

Fabianski: No chance with the goals and an afternoon he will want to forget given the pressure Leeds piled on his goal 6

Coufal: Not at his best either back or front 6

Diop: He demonstrated how much we will welcome Zouma back – all at sea at times 4

Dawson: Did well on a really difficult afternoon and went close at the other end from a corner 7

Cresswell: Probably at fault for the second goal and was not at his best when the first went in – still rusty 4

Rice: Excellent contribution as ever. Whether defending, creating or pushing forward this is a player to die for 8

Lanzini: Typified his game with a beautiful pass the captain put into the side netting. Worked his socks off as his form continued to impress 7

Fornals: Some very neat stuff and a great goal 7+

Vlasic: There’s clearly more to come. Seems he is the regular option to be taken off. Why? 7

Bowen: Fine goal and on his game throughout until a terrible miss at the end 7+

Antonio: Saw plenty of the ball but couldn’t make a serious impact 6

Subs:

Masuaku: Nothing spectacular and spent much of his time passing sideways and backwards 4

Yarmolenko: Saw a header ruled our for offside and appeared more interested than previously 4

Perkins: Late arrival for the 17 year old – little to report No rating

Generous scores for Fab and Diop. I think Fab could have done much better with the goals. Having said that, Leeds did not let us play and we seemed tired and clean out of ideas. (Another) one to forget.

Diop was terrible. Gave the ball away in the build up to the first and third goals, and got lucky when the fourth goal was disallowed, as he made another error for this one. Really can’t pass either. Time up, please. Very generous mark for Vlasic. I didn’t see anything from him. Maybe a 3, if I am generous. I want him to succeed, but he needs to turn in a game winning performance pretty soon.

Knew once masuaku followed by yarmolenko was on the field alongside Diop , three players out of eleven we had no chance.
Get rid and start building with quality players in their place .
If you don’t rice will be off with bowen next season and slow hands Moyes will have money to bank for the owners and we’ll be back to mediocrity

We were found out today. Three in a week affected the defenders most; Coufal, Diop, Cresswell all jaded. Dec the only DCM but tried to also push on, without end product. Brave team selection would have played Alese, Johnson and maybe Kral. Same old sub routine did nothing; Arthur M not effective at all. Too many times we turned possession into 50/50 by poor movement to a hopeful pass. That is tired play, body and mind. The young players should have been blooded before and brought on today. Love you DM but get off the fence.

So let me get this right – you give masuaku a 3 against Norwich after assisting a goal in 20 minutes and not doing much wrong…

Coufal spends 90 minutes totally out of position and completely OUTPLAYED for the duration by Harrison yet he gets a 6?

You’re entitled to your opinion of course but that makes no sense whatsoever…maybe try rating people by that single game instead of how they’ve performed in the past

Too generous to Coufal, who was dire. At least Cresswell contributed at the other end of the pitch. Rice was amazing, and Lanzini had some beautiful ball handling. We miss Ogbonna so badly.

  • paddylimehouse says:

Vlasic was useless today! Never been so pleased to see Arthur come on 2/10 imo

I thought Coufal was poor all day even his throw ins were poor and I put it down to COVID. Dawson tried his very best but Diop had another mare, he could have done better on all 3 goals. We need to sign a top CB irrespective of the price, ffs pay the money for Milenkovic or Botman whatever is needed. Vlasic was poor and only Diop played as poorly, needs more time to adjust. Our best player was Rice again. We have a huge game next weekend and I hope the lads have the time this week to recover. It will be important to get Zouma and Soucek back for that game but I also believe we need to sign a forward this week in time for that game. I found the decision to take Fornals off capped a poor performance by Moyes on the line too and his decisions to keep playing players like Masuaka is mind boggling. To be fair Yarmo gave it his all when he came on – a good professional..

Hugh. I Cannot figure how you give Vlasic a 7. There’s no way you could have been at the match. At best he can hold the ball up but then either looses the ball or panics and just hit the ball in the general direction of the penalty area. Rarely finding a team mate. He doesn’t make things happen. He doesn’t influence the game at all. Oh and he gave the ball away that lead directly to their winner. He was obviously bought on his stats. What must be remembered is stats in inferior leagues count for nothing.
He just doesn’t have it at Premier League level. You can tell he knows this and he has been found out. Watching on TV doesn’t give you the true perspective. His NOT going to suddenly come good. The sooner we realise we have bought a dud, the better.

  • Austrick says:

Would much preferred to see a couple more kids on the pitch instead of the same 2 who give virtually nothing.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Agree with the Coufal comments, since he got his new contract hasnt been the same player who earned it, this game more than any other showed how valuable Soucek is to us, Dawson and Diop are an accident waiting to happen and Cresswell throughout his career has had that blindspot for players getting the run on him and hasnt improved it much, he is great going forward though and has been much better this season and last. I am almost mystified as to why Vlasic is always substituted, of the three attacking midfielders I thought he was the best of them yesterday and certainly presented the most problems, alright Fornals scored the goal but he and Lanzini didn’t offer that much offensively apart from that. Arthur looks like he would like a way out as does Yarmo, hopefully they both get their wishes and I don’t mean that sarcastically only that we need fresh bodies and they can do a better job at other clubs.
