Report: Irons eyeing summer winger swoop

|

West Ham want to sign Jonathan Bamba from Lille in the summer, according to a new report.

The Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the winger is wanted by a number of clubs across Europe, as his contract is set to expire in 2023.

It means Lille might see this summer as the final opportunity to receive a major fee for the 25-year-old, who is a former France U21 international.

Bamba is primarily a left winger but he has somewhat struggled to make an impact this season, failing to score a goal, although he has registered three assists. Last season was more productive, when he scored seven goals and laid on 11 assists.

Lille value him at £16.6m and the Irons are viewed as a potential landing spot for the winger, along with Atalanta, Sevilla, and Bayer Leverkusen.

It remains to be seen if the Hammers would be willing to make a bid for a winger given the other pressing needs in the squad, primarily up front and at centre-back, but Bamba looks a relatively cheap option.
