Moyes: Hammers v Sevilla the tie of the round

|

David Moyes has claimed that West Ham United’s clash with Sevilla is the tie of the round in the Europa League.

The Round of 16 draw was made on Friday morning and the Hammers were paired with the Spanish giants, who have been genuinely exceptional in recent Europa League seasons.

They have won the competition a record six times and have lifted the trophy in four of the last five seasons.

Sevilla are also going great guns in La Liga and sit second behind Real Madrid, having only lost twice all season domestically.

Moyes believes that the tie is a big one, although he accepts that the Hammers face a mighty task to reach the quarter-finals.

He told reporters, per Football.London: “Sevilla is a really tough game.

“The big thing with Europe is the excitement. Everyone wants a European tour, we have played well in Europe and we will take a big support to Sevilla.

“I think it’s the pick of the round. Sevilla have been unbelievable in winning the competition. They’re probably the form side in Spain after Real Madrid at the moment.

“It’s a really tough game, but we want to test ourselves against the best. It would be good to get used to the stadium if we could go back there for the final!”

Moyes admits that he had hoped to see Rangers come out of the pot, for a Battle of Britain, after the Scottish club amazingly dumped German giants Borussia Dortmund, 6-4 on aggregate.

He added: “I was looking forward to the prospect of going to Rangers, but great credit to them for getting through against Dortmund.”
