Video: ‘Oldest Living Hammer speaks’

|

The oldest living West Ham player, Frank O’Farrell spoke to BT sports in an emotional video broadcast just before the two nil victory against Liverpool today. The 88 year old former Wing half said: “I spent a very happy time at West Ham, I met some very special people, especially my wife, I thought she was a film star at the time anyway. They gave me £3 per week, a pound for a win and 10 shilling for a draw. I can still imagine me playing games, the vision comes back when I played. You couldn’t help but be inspired to play well”

O’Farrell played for the Hammers 197 times between 1948 and 1956 and later went on to briefly manage Manchester United in 1971 for 18 months.

Alvin Martin, Julian Dicks, Rio Ferdinand, Paolo Di Canio and Mark Noble also make appearances in the tear jerker.
