Boleyn Ground: Almost gone but never forgotten

|

This was the sad picture of the Boleyn Ground yesterday when West Ham supporter Laura Stokoe passed on Green Street.  She posted the photo on Twitter saying: “This all but broke my heart today” Former West Ham striker David Cross was first to reply on social media saying “Mine too Laura. Mine too”

Another supporter called Paul added “Almost gone but never forgotten”

Housing development Barratt London will soon build 842 flats on the flat which will be renamed Upton Gardens. The West Ham memorial garden will be preserved and form part of the new development.

    Its still a disgrace,
Moving grounds hasn’t helped us compete in the transfer market, hasn’t got world class travel links, are miles from the pitch , in a soulless athletic stadium.
We can’t even play game when we want.
    That’s progress.
Brady and Sullivan, hang your heads.

It is Saddening , Laura . Heart wrenching in fact .
But we can’t dwell on the past as it would only serve to lower our spirits . We are at the LS now and must welcome it with open Arms and build our future within and around it . The LS will be Heart warming one day when we have memories to look back on . It’s up to all of us to make it so .
    COYHAMMERS.

I think its rather naive to believe after one season it was going to make us compete in the transfer window. One season proves nothing you need a longer time frame to judge that.
As for the souless bowl well the fans are the soul, the ones who create an atmosphere. With fans with your attitude in the crowd then maybe it will remain souless.

Don’t make me laugh, people like me who were at upton park when there were 12,000 supporters watching crap football, travelling all round the country for 40 years supporting when it was tough.
Its easy watching west ham now.
The athletics stadium is crap, if you like watching football from a mile away good luck, its better away from home now.

      • James says:

And you think we others dont either. It is hysterical when you come out with the travelling around the country comment like you and you alone do it.Like the only fans who travel to away matches must be the ones who shed tears every week.
Believe it or not there are other fans who travel to matches who are not going to live in a time warp until their last breathe.

But hey ho you are the poor down trodden man still crying in his weetabix each morning.

  • Dave says:

I was all for leaving to a new ground, well up for it, but a football ground, near the players not what we’ve ended up with.
    we’ve been sold out.
    Not poor, not downtrodden,and I don’t like Weetabix !

My first game there was well over 50 years ago, but to be honest the ground then & the ground in 2016 were totally different in so many ways.it still hurt like hell the last time I walkedout last season & this picture has not done a lot for my mood. It is true life moves on etc etc & you can’t live in the past blah blah. I think most people will get over it & things will be done to improve things. We have to either like it or lump it now I’m afraid. Still hurts like hell though….

  • The Demon says:

Stop it. We are where we are and I personally prefer it.

  • Hammer64 says:

That’s good news Demon. It really is, & I think the older fanslike me will come round in time. Let’s hope so. But we do all react differently to these things.
