Hammers refuse to deny Santos interest

|

West Ham today appeared to be edging towards a deal with Barcelona which could see defender Marlon Santos make a move to the London Stadium.

Sources inside the club refused to deny a bid had been lodged for the 22 year old – which is reported as being in the region of £17 million – insisting instead there can be no comment as that’s the way to “spoil deals.”

The news was initially broken by Nice President Jean-Pierre Rivère who revealed the player would leave Nice where he has been on loan because Barcelona had received an offer for the Brazilian and thus would be leaving the French club.

But despite the cat being well and truly out of the bag from a major figure at the French club CandH’s Hammers sources were remaining tight-lipped -usually the surest sign that something is very much afoot.

We were told by a major insider: “We can’t comment as that’s the quickest way to spoil deals.”
