Forgotten West Ham man Winston Reid injury could resume light training in around three weeks but Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t expect the Kiwi centre back to play this season he told reporters at Rush Green late last week.
Winston Reid after went surgery in July last year and is yet to kick a ball in anger this season. The long serving defender suffered a knee injury against Swansea City last season.
The 30-year-old New Zealander joined West Ham for £3m in July 2010 initially on a three-year deal. In March 2015, Reid signed a new six-and-a-half contract on a wage thought to be £55,000 per week and another contract extension in August 2017 takes his current deal up until June 2023.
Winston Reid is best remembered for scoring the last goal at the Boleyn Ground as West Ham beat Manchester United. Whether he will be able to challenge Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena for a slot in the centre of the defence next season remains to be seen.
First season in the new stadium he was mister consistency but that fell away last season.
Probably would be third choice now behind diop and balbuena.
He has been loyal to us and has played 212 games in eight and a half years.
I wish the fella well.
Can’t wait to have him back. Don’t think he should automatically start, but we need 4 decent CBs, and I rate him highly when fit. Get back soon!
Long time out for Reid and i would pick him above Ogbonna all day long when fit.The curse of injuries at West Ham is hard to take.Noticed the other day That Wolves who are pushing for a European place with us( so the manager says) have only used 18 players all season and are pulling away now because of this.We never have the same team from one match to the next.Surely there is more to it than just incredibly bad luck ?.
I , for one , haven’t forgotten him . Hope we will see him next season . Our defense needs strength and certainly misses someone like Reid . If we could only have a season with no or very few injuries who knows what we may achieve under Pelligrini . ,, But no Anautovic ;;
Please 🙏
