Maxi Gomez update

|

Spurs are reported to have entered the race to sign £43m-rated Maxi Gomez.  A report in the Daily Star claims Spurs are leading the race to sign the Celta Vigo striker with West Ham and Liverpool all but out of the running. The report adds that Spurs want the Uruguay star as back-up to Harry Kane and held talks with one of his representatives in London recently.

They claim Liverpool did not follow up their interest and the player will not be heading to Anfield. Borussia Dortmund could yet rival Spurs for Gomez but whispers of interest from Atletico Madrid were played down yesterday with one source suggesting that option remains “complicated”.

In another report by Mundo Deportivo. say Celta Vigo have rejected a Barcelona bid for Maxi Gomez quoting Uruguay Radio Galega.

Apparently, the Spanish champions were willing to offer €25 million (£22m) for the Uruguayan striker, but Celta will not sell for less than €40 million (£35m).

Claret and Hugh sources claim Arsenal have also shown interest and are concerned that the Hammers will be priced out of the Race for Gomez with a release clause of €50 million (£44m). The source gives West Ham no more than a 5% chance of signing Gomez as it stands currently.

West Ham remain the 7/3 favourites with the Boookies with Liverpool and Barcelona 4/1 and Arsenal now 5/1.

So West Ham are the favourites but have no more than a 5percent chance?

At 35 million we should go for him all day long ‘

At 35 million we should go for him all day long , I don’t think Arsenal want him and he won’t want to be 2nd choice behind Kane. I think we have a chance if we go for it . COYI

Got to be Gomez. Which I say knowing absolutely nothing about him other than he’s clearly the man Pellegrini wants and he’s a great age which means he’ll double in value if he has a good season and he won’t lose too much value if he doesn’t hit the ground running.

Look at Anderson. 35-40m but now worth 60m after a indifferent season. The great benefit of signing young players is they are still hungry to succeed, they cost less in wages and help to build for the future, whether that’s as part of the team or building from the financial gains made.

No way he’ll go to Spurs to play second fiddle to Kane. Only way I can see this happening is if Kane is sold to RM.

Missed the boat ….told everyone of our interest now getting muscled out ☹️

If they’ll sell for €40m (£35m) isn’t that what we are ready to pay for Marega? Something doesn’t add up here.

If he is Pelle’s preferred striker I don’t see him being the kind of guy to just say oh well and that be the end of it, I also don’t see him giving the game away by being amateur enough to let that be known to a selling club or other clubs who are interested, so he is playing the game. Sullivan is a business man and would see the benefit in getting this deal done not only for the potential financial reward this could bring but also he has invested heavily in Pelle & Husillos who found some absolute gems last time out so needs to be seen to back his managers choice. Why would a player who is being touted as a potential Barca signing settle to sit on the bench behind a player in Kane who is only 25 himself, the clubs captain and has been his National teams captain. You would have to be a mercenary not interested in playing or career development to do that, Yes Poch is a coach that would no doubt benefit any young player but you need to be playing and he wont get a lot of game time. Llorente I just looked up and he got 684 minutes of Prem football. 7.5 games equivalent in a season where Kane has been out injured. Not much of a prospect of game time. We would be the perfect side even if it is initially thought of as a stepping stone to a bigger prem club.

This is a non story, Gomez is off our radar we can’t afford him according to reports coming out of C&H and Ex WHU employee which is why we are scrapping around for replacements under £30m, unless we sell Arnautovic, Anderson or Rice the funds will not be there to meet his release clause and even if we could if he has a chance for European football where is he more likely to go ? Can we drop the Gomez click bait please and focus on real news ? i.e. free transfer signings and those that the £30m can afford.

  • Hammers64 says:

I have lost count of the strikers that have signed for a club knowing they will only be a back up to the main forward. That would surely be the case if he joins Spurs.Sitting on the bench waiting for Kane to get injured.

  • Hammerkip says:

Terrible business the way we have gone about this…we are favourites but only have a 5 % chance😂😂😂 my God how ridiculous…like I said before
we could of tied this up Iast season but penny pinching has cost them once AGAIN …
