West Ham scoring record laid bare

|

West Ham are the only Premier League team to not have a league top scorer in excess of twenty goals this century.

Tony Cottee was the last man to score twenty-two league goals in the 1986/87 seasons some 22 years ago.

The table includes several seasons in the Championship.

    Teddy Sheringham 20 goals 04/05???

It makes sad reading tbh , I would have loved Gomez would have given us 15-20 goals and some assists. Would still be nice to see him with us . Shows how much we need an out and our goal scorer . We need to sign Gomez or someone with similar qualities . COYI ⚒

  • ExPatHammer says:

Interesting. But it does say “1992/1993 Trevor Morley (20)”. Still a long time ago – makes me wonder if the list is incorrect elsewhere…

  • Andrew Norris says:

Sorry but I’m I reading this wrong , trevor Morley 92/93 20 goals , or does that not count ☹ as all west ham fans know we have been star striker devoid for many many years , deano would have filled that gap but …….. Neville u c…. , talk is talk let’s get 1 up top to complement what we have , Citi

Was about to say same as others but it shows you need quality up top, Sheringham and Morley. We need to attract a young one of those, hopefully Silva will turn into our new Cottee 😀 Gomez I am not sure will ever be a 20 goal s season player, I mentioned Bradley Dack who has more than a bit of the Ashton about him, might not be the paciest but can score every type of goal and can create.

    Make that 32 years ago!!

All very pointless to list those goals … some teams have records of single player goal scorers due to The teams playing style … other teams have a mixture of goal scorers from other areas of the park apart from just strikers … if all we had to do was stop strikers from scoring the game would be easy . It’s always going to be more difficult to stop a wide range of players from scoring . In that list there is a definite lack of goals scored by Teams as a whole instead of just strikers . If a team has say , three players scoring 10 each that is surely better than waiting for one player to score 20 .! and relying on him to do so All season long . No Manager would or could play his side with that being his one and only option . Obviously a good striker is needed and necessary for any team but it doesn’t stop there for a dynamic team .
Very happy to see that we may keep hold of Hernandez,, that’s a possible double figure goal tally on its own ,, but in the wider picture other players should also be scoring .
    Hard to follow ?? , it shouldn’t be !!

  • Geedoubkeu says:

A striker scoring 20 goals does not make a good season. Although interesting, they are meaningless as sucess facts unless combined with total team goals, goal difderence and league positions.

  • berlinhammer says:

Why are Costa and Vardy there if it’s more than 20? … ffs

    32 Years ago, not 22
