|

Winston Reid will make a possible return to international football for New Zealand after just 64 minutes football in 19 months.

The 31 year old was involved in the under 23s match against Wolfsburg B but that is the only action he has had prior to the call up.

New Zealand’s new head coach Danny Hay has named the central defender in his first Whites squad, as well as welcoming several more established names back into the fold.

Hay will lead his group of 24 players in away matches against Hay will lead his group of 24 players in away matches against Ireland and Lithuania this month and is enthused by the talent he has at his disposal.

Reid may squeeze in his first 90 minutes for the Under 23s at Exeter City on Wednesday evening in the Leasing.com Trophy.

Manuel Pellegrini explained after his first return for the Development Team that the next step would be a full game and after missing the game at Swansea on Sunday an appearance looks possible.

West Ham are not entirely happy with the call up believing that he needs more time to recover but have refused to stand in the player’s way.

  • Kenny Irons says:

Absolute joke ! We pay his wages and should put our foot down and say no.
So,with a player who has been out for so long and hasn’t proved his fitness he can go away and get injured and be out for another 12 months.
What a total joke club West Ham are.
