Manuel Pellegrini is safe for now

|

Reports that Manuel Pellegrini will face the sack before Christmas despite West Ham’s one-nil win against Southampton have been denied by club insiders.

The Daily Star claiming an Exclusive on Sunday suggested the 67-year-old Chilean will be let go before Christmas with Carlos Ancelotti and David Moyes being lined up as replacements.

The article by journalist Harry Pratt for the tabloid said “West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is set for the Christmas sack – despite victory at Southampton last night. And with the race on to find a new boss before their next game on Boxing Day at Crystal Palace. The Hammers are considering going back to the future – for previous manager David Moyes. According to sources close to the East Londoners, with just two wins in 12, the board had decided to dispense with the services of Chilean boss Pellegrini, whatever the result was at St Mary’s. And that means the 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Southampton will not spare him the festive chop in the next few days.”

A senior club source speaking to Claret and Hugh this morning denied the report saying “Completely made up, no truth in it whatsoever!”

The West Ham board are expected to monitor improvements on a game by game basis starting with the away game against Crystal Palace on Boxing day.

While Manuel Pellegrini is not out of the woods he will be given a chance between Boxing day and the new year to prove that Chelsea and Southampton were not flukes and the results are on the turn.

It is really in his own hands. If he continues to play two up top and does not revert to 1 up top then he has a chance of staying in the job. If he can show he can change systems to a 3-5-2 then he has a chance of keeping his job. We came under pressure last night for the last 10-15 minutes because he went back to 1 up top. He needs to wake up to this. He should have went 3-5-2 for the last 15 mins. He should never have taken off Haller, crazy decision imo. Sanchez is a liability. We don’t want him to justify his signings we want him to be man enough to admit perhaps he made a mistake now and again. That’s all we want. I want him to be successful as he can attract the right players. I see a report that David Moyes is being considered. It will be a really sad day for West Ham to take that decision and reappoint a manager who just simply has not been able to attract top players. Lets hope Pelle has woken up from his slumber and proves to be successful and gets the very best from his best players by playing them irrespective of the system.

No thanks would have moyes over this drip any day …that’s your opinion and this is mine ..

20 minutes from the end of the game he took Haller off and Noble, then put Sanchez and Yarmolenco on and went straight back to one up front ??? We then started to hang on till the final whistle?? Why on earth does anybody believe he’s going to change his tactics of a lifetime by playing 4-4-2 from this game onwards? As the saying goes ‘a Leopard never changes its spots’ and I.M.H.O Pellegrini won’t change, he loves one up front , and time will tell if he does change his tactics again or not ? Anderson being ill or sick factored in the set up yesterday.

Owners are just postponing the inevitable. Not sure that helps anyone. We have good players who should be performing to a much higher standard, as the assistant trainer has shown…

Typical – knew this would happen. Man is hopeless – so it’s going to take a couple more pastings and then January will be a rubbish window – could only happen at our club. Desperately need some pace and power in midfield as a minimum.

All rather perplexing as we are now in a state of limbo with the manager. My biggest concern is the fact that it took a quirk of fate rather than his good judgement to Have Haller back playing in a front 2..Interesting to see what happens for the Palace match when he has Anderson back for selection. The strange set ups.1 up top, dodgy substitutions with awful players like Sanchez and Yarmolenko and reverting back to 1 striker yesterday and hanging on.The fans can see all this and we write it here on this forum and so far our judgement seems to be far better than the man who is paid 8 million a year to do so.

Exactly what I and others said would happen..this is the worse news that I could hear…bloody pathetic…sick the back teeth of it ……cant even.look at the bloke …its like having the longest and most boring dinner date with Denis Irwin…spoilt my xmas football that’s for sure

And your alternative manager is who ?

      • Hammerkip says:

Howe, potch ,moyes …..any I would be happy with ..never wanted m.p I first place..moyes should of been given a go

Moyes was never given a summer transfer Johnham so how are we going to know if he could have attracted top talent? You can’t judge him on Hugill. Hugil was only bought in as a back up 4th choice striker.
Moyes kept Everton up in the best of the rest spot for many years on a very low budget. Personally I would have liked to see what he could do with the kind of money handed to Pellegrini. Pellets had More Money than any previous West Ham manager.

Am not convinced he won’t revert to type but the performance was an improvement, Antonio single handedly responsible for him being in a job, no team should be that reliant on one player especially one thats frequently injured. If he learns anything it should be that pace and power are required in more positions.

  • Andyusa says:

I think we saw Pelligrini’s strategic genius when he introduced the blundering Sanchez and the off form Yarmolenko. Given the options on the bench I would say keep the formation that has worked throughout the game, leave Haller on to further bolster his confidence and bring Matsuaku on for Nobes who was flagging at that point. We don’t do well when we revert to trying to parking the bus

  • Hammer64 says:

There is no law saying you can’t sack a manager after he wins a game. If the team underperformed in the previous season & things have got worse, and if you could easily list another five reasons why he has not been good enough then you would be mad not to sack him. If his side have one of the worst PL records over the last 12 months you should sack him. If you ask yourself whether the clubs you see as on your level would sack him in the same situation …….how difficult is this?

  • zahama says:

What I liked yesterday was the commitment – while bringing on Diop at the end was a good move – he was only on for a short time but seemed to get in a lot of clearing headers – unlike almost every other poster I though Sanchez was OK when he came on – made sure he was first to a lot of second balls (even if some of his clearances were a bit dodgy). I was among the Pelle out group – and I still have serious doubts – but if we keep on winning then I dont mind him staying

Anyway lets try and get another away victory at Palace – we will need Zaba to concentrate on defence and whoever plays wide right to give him some support

This is like the handling of Avram Grant all over again. Look how that turned out.
