Newham object to West Ham capacity increase

|

Newham Council has submitted planning objections to a capacity upgrade for the London Stadium to increase to 62,500.

Stadium owners London Legacy Development Corporation submitted the planning application in February on behalf of West Ham United.

The application requests permission to increase football crowds by 2,500 but Newham objected to the application on a number of grounds.

The council argues that the application has been submitted incorrectly and that the application cannot change the description of development.

Notwithstanding the procedural error,  Newham says it is concerned on the existing impacts on the operation of Stratford Station and the highway network on football days, and some aspects of the local area management plan adding that arrangements are sub-optimal at present.

Newhan would object to the capacity increase until proper town centre traffic impacts (including bus station impacts) are completed and also wants a lack of enforcement Action on existing Section.106 agreements for Westfield and Stadium (LLDC) to be addressed.

Newham also wants more action to deter car-based travel to the London Stadium saying there is an existing obligation to achieve 90% non-car travel on match days. They want an increase in car parking prices to deter use by football supporters on match days.

A source close to the club told Claret and Hugh that the planning application in question by E20 and West Ham for the increase in capacity to 62,500 on match days at the London Stadium is still currently the subject of detailed discussions with LLDC officers, Newham Council and Tfl. None of the parties has an objection to the principle of the increase and matters of existing and future effects on the transport system will be considered when the officers report the application to the LLDC Planning Committee

Good, we have enough empty seats on match days.
This is just an ego thing with Tottenham, GSB need to get over themselves and their ego.
