Agent confirms striker offer

|

The agent of Gabriel Barbosa has confirmed that West Ham made an offer to sign his client in the January transfer window.

The Flamengo striker has been heavily linked with a potential move to the Premier League and the Hammers have been touted as having a real interest in securing his signature.

Sky reported earlier this month that an offer was made by the Irons to take Barbosa on loan for 18 months with the option to buy him for over £20m next summer.

And his representative has now confirmed that such an offer was tabled but that he did not even bother showing it to his client, because he was so sure Flamengo would reject it.

Indeed, he claims that the only way Barbosa will leave in this transfer window is on a permanent deal.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, Junior Pedroso was asked about the Hammers’ interest and said: “The other club that actually went about with a formalisation of a loan offer was West Ham. And then I didn’t even take that offer to Gabriel, I directed it to Flamengo, who turned it down,” he said.

“Flamengo doesn’t see a loan as a possibility, even paying a fortune, and we wouldn’t consider a loan at the moment either.”

Barbosa, known as Gabigol in Brazil, has scored 84 goals in 123 games for Flamengo.

Think this is old news Hugh, they are claiming the historical offer that the club withdrew was the offer, haven’t heard any rumours to the contrary and his agent is probably recirculating it to get interest from overseas.
