Aguerd’s West Ham days might be numbered

Nayef Aguerd might have played his last game for West Ham, as David Moyes confirmed his absence for tomorrow’s trip to Stamford Bridge.

The £30m defender is reportedly seeking a transfer away from West Ham, with interest from Saudi clubs. Meanwhile, Moyes announced that West Ham could see the return of Dinos Mavropanos for Sunday’s Premier League match at Chelsea.

The Greek international has been sidelined since sustaining an injury during the second half of the home defeat by Fulham on April 14, missing the Hammers’ last three matches across all competitions.

While I’m not convinced that Mavropanos is the ultimate solution to West Ham’s defensive challenges, I do believe that a pairing of Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna is fraught with potential issues.

West Ham, having lost only one of the seven Premier League games Mavropanos started before the Fulham defeat, would undoubtedly benefit from his return, assuming he is fit for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

While Mavropanos might be available to Moyes, the manager confirmed that he will definitely be without the injured Aguerd, as the Morocco international continues his recovery from an injury he sustained during the first half of the 1-1 Europa League draw with Leverkusen at London Stadium on April 18.

“On the two centre-backs, Dinos is making some progress and Aguerd isn’t available,” Moyes said during his pre-match press conference.

“Regarding others, I don’t think we’re too bad at the moment, I think we’re OK.”

I may be reading too much into it, but I would be surprised to see Aguerd wear a West Ham shirt again.

We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.
