Barnes for Benrahma report

|

According to a report in The Guardian, West Ham United could sell Said Benrahma this summer, in order to release an opening for a new winger, such as Leicester City ace Harvey Barnes.

It has been well known for a while now that Barnes is viewed as a key transfer target and Benrahma could be sold in order to facilitate a move for the Leicester star.

Moyes is desperate to add more pace and power to his front-line, and the Leicester City man would certainly provide just that

It would be fair to say that Moyes and Benrahma have not always enjoyed the best of relationships since the winger moved to the club from Brentford in 2020

Benrahma has a cult following at West Ham, and he has hero status in the East End after scoring vital goals at the business end of the Europa Conference League against against AZ Alkmaar in the semi-final and Fiorentina in the final.

He  bagged 12 goals and five assists in 52 games for the Hammers this season according to Opta – that puts him behind only Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio for most goal involvements.

And now it appears to some as though Benny’s time at the London Stadium could be coming to an end.

However, with much of the transfer window money tied up in the Rice deal maybe the club is looking more closely at rotation by adding very good players to the squad.

I’m not a big fan of Benrahma. Never have been, never will be. I admit he does do some fancy footwork whilst running 50 yards with the ball up the pitch. But for me, his final ball, whether it be a shot or a cross is terrible, and he I normally quite reluctant to track back and help out defensively. I would be only to happy to see him go, but for me personally, I would be offering him in the deal for Harvey Barnes.

@Chunk I can’t see Benny agreeing to join Leicester City and return to the Championship. I think another EPL club might decide they are willing to pay a price for him and be able to coach him better than David Moyes, thereby making a better player out of him. Let’s face it, David Moyes has failed with several incoming players over the past few seasons. He really doesn’t seem to know how to get the best out of them. And we have to prepare for more of the same.

I wud have no issue with him leaving either. The only concern I have is if we lose both Benny and Lanzini we are losing alot of technical cleverness so I would like to see someone come in who has that ability to play alongside Paqueta in midfield with possibky Alvarez as the anchor..! But I certainly like the links to Barnes, can see no logic in signing either Phillips or Ward Prowse though…
