Before Moyes …names in and out of Bilic frame

|

Brendan_Rodgers_2014_(cropped)Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was very much part of West Ham’s thinking as the club considered possible replacements to succeed Slaven Bilic.

David Moyes was always high on the Hammers wanted list, but the club looked into a list of possibles before plumping for the 54 year old Scot.

Former Liverpool boss Rodgers is currently sitting proudly at the top of the the Scottish Premiership with a contract believed to take him though to 2021.

But it became clear when feelers were put out, that the 44 year old had no interest in leaving Scotland at this stage of his career.

Speculation that Sam Allardyce may make a return also proved incorrect with the club never seriously interested in appointing the former boss despite his and other names being thrown into conversations.

Allardyce is understood to have wanted £8 million for a Premier League return and a substantial stay up bonus if arriving at any threatened club.

The club also dismissed the possibility of returning to Alan Pardew given his recent record track record.

Other bosses fancied by the club were Burnley’s Dyche, Huddersfield’s David Wagner and Watford’s Marco Silva but none were prepared to consider a new club at this stage of the season.

Well I’m delighted that Rogers was a consideration because i was bigging him up for weeks, much to Laz’s annoyance!. But I think the reality of the situation is he wasn’t prepared to leave Celtic for a club struggling in the bottom three, and in the obvious mess we are in, rather than not prepared to leave at all. Ditto Silva and Dyche. And who can blame them? Leave the security of their current positions for a short-term contract with the Dildos! Anyway, we’ve made our choice and now we get on with it.

Agree Jimbo & just like Bilic Moyes wasn’t first choice more like 5th or 6th. Bilic got more time then he should have but don’t think that will happen w Moyes. If he does good & gets us in top 8 & let’s say league cup win I have been asked would I give him the 2 more years and Yes if he can do that I would especially if playing good football.
But Managers prefer to come in summer if leaving another Job for obvious reasons like having that time to adapt & new signings.
I think Sullivan is thinking of Moyes as stop gap & Moyes just wants to prove himself. But if he does get us some silver & top 8 I could not give him time could say usually better his 2nd year. At Sociedad he at least got them mid table from Relegation so not really that bad…
But I like Rogers as well not my 1st choice but has taken Celtic as far as he can really & done great w youth. I’d love to have Tierney & Ralston in our team.

What is the point of this article after Moyes has been appointed? Nothing positive can come of it. It’s time to look forward not back.
