Benteke to West Ham? The fans react

|

Christian Benteke is being widely touted as a big Irons target this summer.

No sooner than the story broke than the Liverpool striker spoke out about his treatment at Anfield and his unhappiness with manager Jurgen Klopp.

That normally suggests a player ho may be cashing in on the publicity generated from the transfer talk but should that possible switch be to West Ham?

ClaretandHugh readers at https://www.facebook.com/groups/363174467150521/ have been airing their views. Here’s a selection of their comments.

christian-benteke-v-bordeaux_3381667O One below average season doesn’t make him a bad player. Maybe we’re the team, with the right manager to help him raise his ability to the next level?

O My only worry is his injury problems! Still young and proved he can score in the prem….he was never going to do well at liverpool

O The trouble is why would we want a player like Benteke when Andy Carroll is starting to show his form

O Question is would you have signed him on his villa form….yes!

O I find it hard to judge Benteke – a few seasons looking ok in a progressively worse Villa team, and now his stint at Anfield where he looks like a fish out of water with zero confidence. Not sure he’s the 20-goal a season man, anymore than Sakho, Carroll and Valencia are!

O I think he has shown that he has to have the right support and team players to perform.
O Yes, he was good at Villa, but look at us in terms of performance, we have shown real quality, fight, comradeship and determination and I can’t see what he would bring to the team that we have not got already.
We need to get out of the “Who can we get, who is cheap, who is available?” attitude and ask “what can they bring to strengthen the squad, will they be consistent, are they someone we actually want?”
O Given Slav’s success with his chosen players so far, if he wants him get him!

  • Lowestoft Lad says:

The owners have always said that their transfer priority this summer is a 20 goal a season striker. Maybe that striker is Benteke. maybe it isn’t. we are all entitled to our opinions of course. But for me the only opinions that matter, are the opinions of Slaven Bilic and his coaching team along with the recruitment staff. They have served us unbelievably well thus far, so long may it remain the case. COYI

Agree with that Lowestoft.I have a great deal of faith in the whole unit of people who conduct our transfer business now.Pretty hard to fault them actually.

I look at the way players plat against us first,
Wilson of Bournemouth ripped us a part and until he got injured scored goal against everyone,
He will cost less want to play for a better team,
I have yet to hear what Benteke thinks about the teams chasing him only that he is not happy at Liverpoor,
We won’t get him cheap and what happens to Carroll,
I would sooner keep AC and find a player to replace Emineke who can fit our system better,

    • Roman says:

Agree again bubs.If not Wilson what about Lukaku if available? He always seems to score against us.I wouldn’t even entertain the idea of buying another Liverpool underachiever.

Really not sure about the 20 goal thing. We’ve scored from all over the park this season, playing exciting free flowing football. We’d probably have to change our style if we needed to feed one central striker that many chances.

Bent eke is totally the wrong player….

This is the Andy Carroll saga all over again, he is overrated, injury prone, lazy, needlessly offside, route 1 target that we are trying to rid our wage bill of..

The club is in good shape, have the best manager in the league (including the money spunkers on their way next year) and finally we are looking solid and built from the back four like a proper team…

Don’t spend all our readies as we enter a new chapter

    Please…..

  • ChrisTheHammer says:

I’d rather we didn’t go after benteke, he’s the worst option of all the strikers we’ve been linked with
