BFS sees crucial Hammers survival link

|

Sam Allardyce inevitably re-visited West Ham issues when he arrived at his regular talkSPORT gig.

The former manager has in the past appeared to take a certain amount of pleasure in discussing our problems but on this occasion he got it right in our opinion.

He’s always been a huge fan of his old ‘mucker’ Kevin Nolan and may even have had a hand in recommending him to his other big pal in the game -, David Moyes.

Whether he did or didn’t, Nolan’s is a good appointment –  a coming home – which the vast majority will welcome- given the wholehearted and consistent form of leadership and performance we saw from him as captain.

There’s no reason to believe he can’t provide the same as part of the back up to Moyes as we prepare for a Herculean battle against relegation and Allardyce believes his and Mark Noble’s link will be key.

Allardyceis hopeful the quality of players at the club can eventually turn things around and added: “Kevin has been out in the wilderness too long.

“I think the experience he gained in his position as a manager will stand him in good stead going in with David. It is a tough job but he knows all about West Ham.

“He doesn’t know all the players now because a lot has changed since he left but his link with Mark Noble will be crucial as well because he is a big man in the dressing room – a West Ham man all his life.

“The quality of player in the squad will eventually turn things around. Perhaps David has been shocked, especially by the last result.”
